The findings of a natural ingredient for treatment of Lower Back Pain from scientific communities have not been abating. Many ingredients showed extremely prominent in animal studies do not produce the same effects in human trials.

According to the recent studies by the well known institutions, ginger(1), Pineapple(5) and orange(10), may hold a key for potential and therapeutic values for attenuated symptoms and treatment of lower back pain.

Ginger (Zingiber officinale) or ginger root is the genus Zingiber, belonging to the family Zingiberaceae, native to Tamil. It has been used in traditional and Chinese medicine to treat dyspepsia, gastroparesis, constipation, edema, difficult urination, colic, etc.

Strong evidence in pidemiological studies linking ginger phytochemicals in reduced symptoms of pain and treatment of chronic pain diseases may be due to its hypoalgesic and anti inflammatory activities(1)(4).

A 164 patients screened, 140 eligible, 70 were randomized to the application of aromatic ginger oil (SMGO) on chronic low back pain study, exhibited a significant improvements in pain intensity and disability (p<0.05) across the period of assessments in immediate, short- and long-term effectiveness(2).

According to the University of Freiburg im Breisgau, ginger has shown a moderate effect as a herbal medicine in the treatment of osteoarthritic complaints and chronic low back pain but further studies are necessary to enable acceptance of the herbal medicines into the treatment guidelines(3).

Intake of melatonin enhancer fruits, such as pineapple and orange can improve sleep quality, pain and pain threshold, particular on pain score on the Visual Analog Scale, according to the study by the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS)(5).

In chronic lower back pain patient, Dr. Kurganova YM and Dr. Danilov AB. said, in application over 12 weeks of melatonin in patient with lower back pain " (there is) a significant reduction in pain intensity at movement and resting state.....in the main groups compared to controls" and " ossible mechanisms of analgesic properties of melatonin and world experience in chronic low back pain treatment"(6). Other study suggested that the effectiveness of melatonin in pain relief in chronic pain patient, probably due to its analgesic possibilities(7).

According to the Ubon Ratchathani University, intake of pineapple and orange in health subjects experiment showed to increase the serum melatonin concentrations as well as raising the antioxidant capacity in proportion to serum melatonin levels(8).

Pineapple is a species of Ananas Comos. belongings to the family Bromeliaceae and native to southern Brazil and Paraguay. Today it is widely cultivated for commercial and its rich of vitamins and mineral and digesting enzyme bromelin which seems to help digestion at the end of a high protein meal. It is second only to banana as America's most favourite tropical fruit

Dr. Johns NP and colleagues at the Khon Kaen University said," selected fruits(pineapple, orange and banana) consumption may reduce age-related melatonin reduction problems such as sleeplessness and illnesses involving oxidative damage"(9).
Orange is a species of Citrus Sinensis, belong to the family Rutaceae and native to the Southeast Asia. Orange is round citrus fruits with finely-textured skins, orange in color and one of most popular fruits in the world.

The increased levels of melatonin content during alcoholic fermentation of orange juice may hold a key to attenuate the melatonin due to ageing(10).

Dr. Huang X and Dr. Mazza G. said," orange had the highest melatonin content" in the the direct analysis of initial methanol extracts was compared with further ethyl acetate extraction(11).

Taking altogether, intake of combination of ginger, pineapple and orange induced the production of melatonin in improved the sleep pattern and reduced significantly pain on pain score may be beneficiary for treatment of symptoms of lower back pain
People who are at higher risk of lower back pain due to aging or occupations,...may drink one or 2 servings a day, people with lower back pain should drink as much as they can depending to the digestive alternation.
