Herbal Arctostaphylos uva-ursi, the Potential and Natural Anti Type 4 Hypersensitivity with No Side Effects, Scientists Find

Scientists may have found a herbal medicine for the prevention and treatment of type 4 hypersensitivity with no side effects, according to studies.

Type 4 allergy or type 4 hypersensitivity is often called delayed-type hypersensitivity as the reaction takes several days to develop.

In other words, instead of happening right the way as that of other types, type 4 hypersensitivity typically develops at least 48 hours after exposure to an antigen.

The process that develops type 4 hypersensitivity involved the activation of the white blood cell cells in stimulating the release of cytokines and chemokines, and macrophages and cytotoxic CD8+ T cells associated with the body's adaptive immune response.

Compared to other types of allergy mediated by the antibody, type 4 allergy is a cell-mediated response.

Type 4 hypersensitivity can induce allergic contact dermatitis, occurred at the site where the antigen contacts the skin, then spread to other regions through contamination of the antigen.

Type 4 hypersensitivity is caused by atopic dermatitis, lung diseases associated with hypersensitivity, type 2 diabetes and inflammation of thyroid gland.

Treatment of type 4 hypersensitivity is totally depending on the severity of the disease. however, the most appropriate approach is to avoid the offending antigen.

Arctostaphylos uva-ursi is one of the species of Bearberry, in the genus Arctostaphylos, belonging to the family Ericaceae, native to northern North America, Asia, and Europe.

The herb has been used in traditional medicine as a diuretic agent and to treat urinary problems, including bladder infections, kidney infection, kidney stone, pelvic pain, etc.

The herbal plant contains arbutin, ursolic acid, tannic acid, gallic acid, some essential oil and resin, hydroquinones tannins, phenolic glycosides, and flavonoids.

In the concern of the widespread of Type IV hypersensitivity caused by the contact dermatitis, researchers at the Kinki University examined the combined effect of arbutin isolated from the leaves of Arctostaphylos uva-ursi (L.) Spreng. (Bearberry leaf) and indomethacin on Type IV allergic reaction-induced immuno-inflammation, carrageenin-induced edema, and adjuvant-induced arthritis.

Injection of arbutin at a dose of 50 mg/kg 24 h after the application rapidly decreased the swelling of type IV allergic sheep induced edema and adjuvant-induced arthritis by picryl chloride (PC-CD) compared to no reaction at the divided doses of 50 mg/kg.

Arbutin (p.o.) plus indomethacin (s.c.) exerted highly inhibitory effects on the swelling of PC-CD and sheep red cell delayed-type hypersensitivity (SRBC-DTH) compared to that of indomethacin alone.

Furthermore, arbutin (p.o.) and indomethacin (s.c.) in a given portion were simultaneously administered, the inhibitory effect was more potent than that of indomethacin alone in both carrageenin-induced edema and adjuvant-induced arthritis.

The results clearly suggested that arbutin may increase the inhibitory action of indomethacin on PC-CD, SRBC-DTH against type 4 hypersensitivity.

Moreover, in the comparison of water extract (UW-ext) from the leaf of Arctostaphylos uva-ursi (L.) Spreng (Bearberry leaf) on the antiallergic and anti-inflammatory activities of dexamethasone ointment, researchers found one or 2% UW-ext ointment did not inhibit the ear swelling by picryl chloride-induced contact dermatitis (PC-CD) and carrageenin-induced paw edema.

However, combined with dexamethasone ointment (0.005 or 0.025%), UW-ext augmented the inhibitory effect of dexamethasone ointment (0.005 or 0.025%) on these allergic and inflammatory models with no side effects.

These findings showed that not all parts of herbal Arctostaphylos uva-ursi processes anti-type 4 allergies, but combined with other therapy all parts augmented the significant anti-allergic and inflammatory activity with no side effects.

Additionally, the investigation of the antitype 4 allergies properties of the combined effect of 50% methanolic extract from Arctostaphylos uva-ursi (L.) Spreng. (bearberry leaf) and prednisolone also showed similar results as illustrated by the above 2 studies.

U-ext did not show an inhibitory effect on the swelling induced by PC-CD in divided doses of 100mg/kg immediately before and 16 h after the application of PC-CD, while it exhibited a significant therapeutic effect at a dose of 100 mg/kg or more once 24 h after the application.

Injection of the combination of U-ext (p.o.) and prednisolone (s.c.) simultaneously administered, exerted a greater inhibitory effect compared to that of prednisolone alone.

Researchers at the above studies wrote in the final report, "Bearberry leaf possesses a therapeutic effect against immuno-inflammation induced by PC-CD and also increases the inhibitory effect of prednisolone, and its active principle may be arbutin".

Taken altogether, herbal Herbal Arctostaphylos uva-ursi (Bearberry) may be considered a functional remedy for the prevention and combined with primary medicines for the treatment of type 4 hypersensitivity with no side effects.

Herbal Bilberry Protects Your Vision Against Eye Strain (Asthenopia), According to Studies

Asthenopia is a condition characterized by nonspecific symptoms such as fatigue, pain in or around the eyes, blurred vision, headache, and occasional double vision.

Symptoms occur mostly in the people who have spent a long time in the visual task focusing, such as prolonged reading on the screen or newspaper.

Some researchers suggested by giving the eye some rest such as looking on a distant object at least once an hour can be helpful in alleviating the problem.

Mechanically, eye muscle imbalance or uncorrected vision can also cause asthenopia.

Symptoms of asthenopia include sore or irritated eyes dry or watery eyes, blurred or double vision and increased sensitivity to light.

Some people may also experience symptoms of trouble focusing and pain in the neck, shoulder, and neck.

If you experience some of the above symptoms, you may have asthenopia, please make sure you check with your doctor for preventive measure.

Some researchers suggested that asthenopia may also be a symptom in people with a chronic headache.

Dr. Vincent AJ, the lead scientist in the investigation of a chronic headache asthenopia wrote, "Sensitivity to light in the absence of a headache was reported by 27.8% of controls and 44.7% of headache sufferers (p less than 0.05)" and "The latter figure increased to 71.3% when a headache was actually present (p less than 0.001)".

These results indicated a strong correlation between a chronic headache and asthenopia.

Bilberry is a species of low-growing shrubs in the genus Vaccinium, belonging to the family Ericaceae, native to Northern Europe.

The plant has been used as herbs in traditional medicine for the treatment of acute and chronic diarrhea, gastritis, gastric ulcer, and duodenal ulcer, enterocolitis, ulcerative colitis, anemia, cystitis, kidney disease, and psoriasis, diabetes, etc.

Researchers with an aim of finding a natural ingredient for the treatment of asthenopia examined the effects of dietary supplementation with a combination of fish oil, bilberry extract, and lutein on subjective symptoms of asthenopia in humans.

A double-blind, randomized, parallel-group and the placebo-controlled trial was conducted by the Human Life Science R&D Center,
* In the Active group, eleven subjects were given a supplement containing omega-3 fatty acid-rich fish oil (docosahexaenoic acid 783 mg/day, eicosapentaenoic acid 162 mg/day), bilberry extract (anthocyanidin 59 mg/day), and lutein (17.5 mg/day) in soft gel capsule form, every day for 4 weeks.

* In the Placebo group, nine subjects were received placebo capsules.

According to the questionnaires taking before and after the experiment, researchers found that
* Asthenopia symptoms such as "stiff shoulder, low back pain", "frustration", "dry-eye", and "stuffy head" were improved in the Active group compared to the placebo.

* Subjected received the supplement also demonstrated a significant improvement od mental symptoms such as fatigue after 4 weeks.

No side effects were reported in the active group at the 2 and 4 weeks of supplemental injection, according to the return questionnaires.

The results strongly supported the use of dietary supplementation with the combination of omega-3 fatty acid-rich fish oil, bilberry extract, and lutein for the treatment of asthenopia.

Taken altogether, bilberry used alone or combined with other supplements may be considered functional remedies for the prevention and treatment of asthenopia with no side effects, pending to the validation of larger sample size and multicenter human study.

Phytochemical Sinigrin Protects the Neuron Against Toxicity

Sinigrin may be used as a natural and bioactive compound for the treatment of neurotoxicity, according to studies.

Neuroprotection is anything used or intake for the protection of neurons in the brain.

Neurotoxicity is a condition in which the structure or function of the central and/or peripheral nervous system have been damaged due to the presence of biological, chemical or physical toxins.

Neurons are the cells in the brain with a unique function in which the information is being received processed, and transmitted from cell to cell, muscle, or gland cells.

Neuron toxicity can occur to any parts of the brain, depending on the types of neurotoxin. Symptoms of neurotoxicity are also depending on the neurons specific functions, the neurotransmitters affected.

According to the Integrative Psychiatry, symptoms may include

* Brain fog – loss of mental focus, ADD, ADHD, impaired memory, poor decision making;

* Insomnia – difficulty falling asleep, staying asleep, or both

* Pain – migraines, fibromyalgia.

* Obesity – metabolic syndrome, insulin resistance, and diabetes.

These results clearly suggested that neurotransmitters imbalance can cause a wide range of diseases.

Researchers on finding a natural compound which processes neuroprotective effects examined the Allyl isothiocyanate (AITC), presented in Wasabia japonica (wasabi), and an aliphatic isothiocyanate derived from the precursor sinigrin on neurotoxicity.

Pretreatment with AITC significantly inhibited the production of free radical NO induced by nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) and protein (COX-2) associated with inflammation.

Injection of AITC decreased the expression of proinflammatory cytokines such tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), interleukin-6 (IL-6), prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) during the acute phase of infection.

Furthermore, AITC inhibited the nuclear factor NF-κB induced the oxidative stress and the pathway involved in directing cellular responses.

Moreover, AITC also protected the microglia damage induced by overexpression of pro-inflammatory cytokine TNF-α.

The results strongly suggested that AITC exerts anti-neuroinflammatory effects on microglial cells, which may have clinical significance in neurodegeneration.

Taken altogether, sinigrin a bioactive ingredient may be considered a functional supplement for the prevention and treatment of neuro-toxicity, pending to the confirmation of large sample size and multicenter human study.

However, intake of bioactive in the form of supplement should be taken with extreme care, as liver toxicity may be induced if overdosed.

Herbal Ginger, the Potential Anti-Aging Remedy with No Side Effects, According to Scientists

On seeking natural therapy with no side effects, scientists may have a vegetable with anti-aging potential, according to studies.

Aging is a natural process of becoming older. Antiaging is a term that relates to delay aging. In other words, anti-aging is an action that makes your appearance looked younger than your biological age.

The cause of aging has many theories, including the theory of the accumulation of damage due to oxidative stress in the initiation of DNA oxidation and the programmed aging concept due to DNA methylation.

However, regardless of the theories, the decrease in hormone production gradually found in the human body may be one of the major cause of aging progression.

In fact, reduced production of hormone affects the amount of hormone released into the bloodstream, leading to decreased functioning of the target organs and systems.

Some researchers suggested that improved nutrients intake may have a strong effect in delaying the progression of aging and reducing the risk of age-related diseases.

Dr. Simpson SJ, the lead scientist in the joint study led by the University of Sydney wrote, "Nearly a century of research has shown that nutritional interventions can delay aging and age-related diseases in many animal models and possibly humans".

And, "Nutritional geometry provides new perspectives on the relationship between nutrition and aging by focusing on calories, macronutrients and their interactions across a landscape of diets, and taking into account compensatory feeding in ad libitum-fed experiments".

The results strongly suggested that if you follow a healthy diet with nutrients diet by focusing on calories, macronutrients, you may delay the process of biological aging.

Ginger (Zingiber officinale) or ginger root, the second superfood used for thousands of years by mankind, is the genus Zingiber, belonging to the family Zingiberaceae, native to Tamil.

The root has been used in traditional and Chinese medicine to treat dyspepsia, gastroparesis, constipation, edema, difficult urination, colic, etc.

Researchers on finding a natural ingredient which processes anti-aging property examined the ameliorative effects of two antioxidant supplements, ginger and alpha lipoic acid (ALA), on hepatic ultrastructural alterations in old rats by evaluating the livers of young (4 months) and old (24 months) Wistar rats.

Before administration of ginger and ALA, livers of old rats showed sinusoidal collapse and congestion, endothelial thickening and defenestration, and inconsistent perisinusoidal extracellular matrix deposition and aged hepatocytes associated with the reduced liver functioning.

Injection of ginger and ALA supplementation completely normalized all the alternation due to aging in the tested old rats.

The findings strongly suggested the use of ginger and ALA as an anti-aging product for the improvement of based on their amelioration of ultrastructural alterations in livers of old rats.

Additonally, in order to get more information about ginger antiaging effects, researchers examined the anti-aging natural products, the active constituent 6-shogaol isolated from the ginger.

Application of the tested compound showed to the lifespan-extending effect in a dose-dependent manner in Caenorhabditis elegans.

The anti-aging activity effects were attributed to 6 gingerols in increasing oxidative stress tolerances via antioxidant enzymes induction.

In the depth differentiation, researchers surprisingly found that 6-shogaol inhibits the aging process independent from other aging-related factors of C. elegans.

Taken altogether, ginger processed high levels 6 gingerols may be considered a functional anti-aging remedy, pending to the confirmation of larger sample sized and multicenter human study

3,3'-Diindolylmethane, the Phytochemical Which Gobbles Up Liver Cancer Cells

Scientists may have found a bioactive ingredient for the treatment of liver cancer with no side effects, according to studies.

The liver is the largest internal organs in the human body which plays a critical role for maintaining the integrity of cells wall, production of vitamin D and steroid hormone and aiding the digestive system in absorption of nutrients, through the production of cholesterol.

Additionally, the liver also filters out waste from the blood coming from the digestive system before passing them to the other parts of the body.

Liver cancer is a medical condition caused by irregular cell growth in the tissues of the liver.

Most cases of liver cancer start in the cells on the surface of the inner lining of the liver tissues before penetrating into deeper layers of the liver.

At the early stage due to the small size of the tumor and lack of nerve tissues, most patients are asymptomatic.

However, at the advanced stage, cancer cells can travel a distance away from the liver to infect other healthy tissues and organs, leading to secondary metastasis.

Patients at this stage may experience the general symptoms of cancers such as gastrointestinal discomforts, unintended weight loss, loss of appetite and fatigue accompanied by the symptoms of persistent upper abdominal pain, abdominal swelling, jaundice, and chalky stools.

If you have some of the aforementioned symptoms, please make sure you check with your doctor to rule out the possibility of liver cancer.

Out of many risk factors associated with the onset of liver cancer, some researchers suggested that people who carry hepatitis viral may have a substantially higher risk of the disease.

Dr. Marc Ringehan, the lead researcher said, "Hepatitis B and C viruses are a global health problem causing acute and chronic infections that can lead to liver cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). These infections are the leading cause of HCC worldwide and are associated with significant mortality, accounting for more than 1.3 million deaths per year".

And, "The majority of viral-associated HCC cases develop in subjects with liver cirrhosis; however, hepatitis B virus infection can promote HCC development without prior end-stage liver disease".

Scientists in seeking potential and bioactive compounds for the treatment of liver cancer examined 3'3-Diindolylmethane (DIM, the major product of the acid-catalyzed oligomerization of indole-3-carbinol anti-liver cancer properties.

In two HCC cell lines SMMC-7721 and MHCC-97H, injection of DIM inhibited the proliferation, migration, and invasion of cancer cells.

In nude mice, DIM significantly decreased the volumes of SMMC-7721 orthotopic liver tumor and suppressed lung metastasis.

Furthermore, DIM decreased the level of phospho-FAK (Tyr397) which is found elevated in both vitro and in vivo.

The DIM anti-cancer cells efficacy on proliferation, migration, and invasion are probably due to the inhibition of the expression of matrixes (MMP2-9) associated with the promotion of cancer cells growth and invasion.

Dr. Li WX, the lead scientist wrote, "These results demonstrated that DIM blocks HCC cell metastasis by suppressing tumor cell migration and invasion".

Moreover, in order to reveal more information about DIM anti-liver cancer activity, researchers investigated whether diindolylmethane effect on HA59T cells.
At concentrations of 10-75 μM, diindolylmethane killed cells in a concentration-dependent manner, particularly, in diindolylmethane (25-50 μM) induced apoptosis in a concentration-dependent manner.
The cytotoxic effect of diindolylmethane against the tested liver cancer cell line was not reversed by chelating cytosolic Ca(2+).

Where Calcium (Ca2+) ions are important for cellular signaling. Its flow plays an essential role in regulating several secondary messenger systems in neural adaptation for visual, auditory, and the olfactory system.

The results suggested that DIM inhibited the onset and progression of liver cancer through a number of mechanisms, including proteins involved in anti-cell proliferation and migration, and promotion of apoptosis.

Taken altogether, 3,3'-Diindolylmethane derived from the digestion of indole-3-carbinol may be considered a supplement for the prevention and treatment of liver cancer, pending to the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.

Intake of 3,3'-diindolylmethane in form of supplement should be taken with extreme care to prevent overdose acute liver toxicity.

Herbal Bilberry, Protects the Heart and Blood Vessels Against Cardiovascular Diseases

Scientists may have found a whole fruit for the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular diseases, according to studies.

Cardiovascular diseases (CVD) are a group of conditions associated with blood vessels and the heart.

According to the statistics provided by the World Health Organization, cardiovascular diseases are the number 1 cause of death globally. Approximately, 17.9 million people died from CVDs in 2016, representing 31% of all global deaths.

Most common risk factors associated with CVD are an unhealthy diet, physical inactivity, smoking, and excessive alcohol drinking.

Patients with CVD mostly were found to have some intermediate conditions such as high blood pressure, cholesterol, and glucose and being overweight and obese.

Most common symptoms of CVD include persistent chest pain, chest tightness, chest pressure and chest discomforts, and conditions associated with lower blood circulation due to narrowing blood vessels such as shortness of breath, numbness, weakness or coldness in your legs or arms.

Some people before having a CVD may also experience symptoms of pain in the neck, jaw, throat, upper abdomen or back.

If you experience some of the symptoms aforementioned, please check with your doctor to rule out the possibility.

Some researchers suggested that people inherited the mutated gene from the parent are also at a higher risk of CVD.

Dr. Sunil K. Nadar the lead scientist in the investigation of the genetics of CVD wrote, "The term ‘cardiovascular disease’ (CVD) encompasses a wide spectrum of diseases—including ischaemic heart disease (IHD), congenital structural heart disease and various inherited arrhythmias and cardiomyopathies—each of which has its own etiology and pathogenesis".

And, "Our present understanding seems to suggest that it is not one gene on its own that leads to CVD, but rather an interaction between the effects of various genes".

In the differentiation of natural compounds for the treatment of cardiovascular disease (CVD), researchers in a joint study led by the Slovak University of Agriculture in Nitra examined the effects of regular consumption of bilberries on CVD risk reduction.

Women (n=25) and men (n=11) included in the study were asked to consume 150 g of frozen stored bilberries 3 times a week for 6 weeks.

At the end of the study, the consumption of bilberries showed a significant decrease of risk factors associated with the onset of CVD, including total cholesterol (P=.017), LDL-C (P=.0347), TG (P=.001), glucose (P=.005), albumin (P=.001), γ-glutamyltransferase (P=.046), and a positive increase in HDL-C (P=.044).

In men, larger favorable changes were found in total cholesterol, glucose, albumin, aspartate aminotransferase, γ-glutamyltransferase, and HDL-C (P=.009) compared to women.

Interestingly, injection of bilberry over the period was not induced the favorable change but increase of LDL-C.

Dr, Habanova M, the lead scientist after taking into co and confounders, said, "the regular intake of bilberries can be important to reduce CVD risk, by decreasing LDL-C/TG and increasing HDL-C".

Furthermore, in order to find more information about the bilberry anti CVD effects, researchers investigated the effect of bilberry juice on serum and plasma biomarkers of inflammation and antioxidant status in subjects with elevated levels of at least one risk factor for cardiovascular disease (CVD).

The randomized controlled trial included participants consumed either bilberry juice (n = 31) or water (n = 31) for 4 weeks.

Injection of bilberry juice resulted in a significant decrease in plasma concentrations of C-reactive protein (CRP), interleukin (IL)-6, IL-15, and monokine induced by INF-gamma (MIG).

However, an increase in the plasma concentration of tumor nuclear factor-alpha (TNF-alpha) involved in the acute phase of systematic inflammation was also observed in the bilberry group.

Bilberry juice exerted a significant effect in modulating the protein associated with pro-inflammatory cytokines, through activation of a transcription factor, a crucial protein (nuclear factor- kappa B (NF-kappaB)) associated with chronic inflammatory diseases.

Interestingly, injection of bilberry juice did not induce the change of other clinical parameters, including oxidative stress or antioxidant status.

The findings suggested that bilberry reduced risk CVD by modulating the inflammation processes.

Taken altogether, bilberry may be considered a functional remedy for the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular disease with no side effects, pending to the validation of larger sample size and multicenter human study.

Honey, the Best for treatment of First and Second Degrees of Burns

Scientists may have found a whole fruit for speeding up the healing of burns, according to studies.

Burn is skin and skin tissue damage due to heat, cold, electricity, chemicals, friction, or radiation. The condition is the most prevalent injury in the household, particularly in children.

Most cases of skin burn are healed within a few days or weeks, depending on the degree and size of the burns.

Depending on the severity, complications of deep or widespread burns may include bacterial infection (in some cases can lead to sepsis), hypovolemia (fluid loss), hypothermia (low body temperature) and breath difficulty due to the intake of hot air or smoke.

In some cases, patients with deep or widespread burns can be life-threatening. According to statistics, from Dr. ISHTIAQ AHMED CHAUDHARY in the study of burns and mortality, there is 100% mortality rate in patients with 70% total body surface area burns compared to the 100% survival rate in patients with less than 30%.

Most cases of first and second-degree burns that affect only the top layer of skin can be treated under cool running water or cool water for 15 minutes until pain subsides or taking a pain reliever and applying antibiotic cream.

Other higher degrees of burns should call 911 immediately.

Honey, the rich golden liquid is the miraculous product made by bees using nectar from flowers.

The liquid is considered one of healthy sweet food for replacing the use of white sugar and artificial sweetener by many people.

Researchers with an aim to develop a strategy for making the alginate base hydrogel components against burned wound infection examined the effect of honey in the biofilm forming bacteria colonization in burned patients.

Following the collection of the honey from three different provinces of Iran, an alginate base hydrogel was prepared by the use of calcium chloride.

In vivo, the healing activities of prepared ointment were compared in infected burned rat models. 75% diluted thymol based honey collected from Damavand province showed the greatest inhibition of bacteria in wound compared to others.

The hydrogel was also the better healing activity in rats burned wound against the bacteria biofilm-forming bacteria colonization compared to the honey application.

Additionally, in order to reveal more activities of honey, researchers investigated the medicinal honey antibacterial and immunomodulatory properties in the treatment for infected wounds.

Ras-induced burn wound selected to the study were randomly allocated into 4 experimental groups: control (C), PBM super pulsed 904 nm laser treated (PBMT), honey treated (HT) and combined treatment (CT).

The CT group demonstrated synergistically attenuated inflammation, pain and enhanced cell adhesion, migration compared to other treatment groups.

The efficacy of CT was attributed to the inhibition of the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as TNF-α, NF-κB, IL-1β and exhibition of molecules in the promotion of wound healing by spreading of platelets at the site of injury, fibroblasts, and endothelial cells into the wound region.

The findings strongly support the use of the combination of medicinal honey and PBMT in accelerating the repair process of burn wounds.

Taken altogether, honey used alone or combined with other therapeutic agents may be used for speeding up wound healing with no side effects, pending to the confirmation of larger sample size and multicenter human study.

Herbal Artichoke Improves Liver Functioning

On seeking natural therapy with no side effects, scientists may have found a herbal remedy for improvement of liver functioning, according to studies.

The liver function plays a critical role in filtering blood come from the intestinal before passing them to other organs and tissues. The reddish-brown organ also detoxes toxic chemicals and metabolizes medicine and secrete bile to the intestine for breaking down food and absorbing nutrients.

Additionally, the liver is found to process the ability to secrete proteins such as albumin, fibrinogens, and apolipoproteins into the blood for the regulation of the oncotic pressure, blood clotting, and lipoprotein metabolism, respectively.

There are many factors can disrupt the liver function including viral infection, alcohol use or obesity, leading to scar formation in the liver tissue.

Long-term untreated chronic liver infection that causes the replacement of normal liver tissue by scar tissues eventually lead to cirrhosis, a non-reversible, dangerous condition that can lead to liver failure and cancer.

At the early stage of liver disease, most patients are asymptomatic. However, as the disease progression patients may experience unspecific symptoms of loss of appetite, fatigue, general malaise, gastrointestinal discomforts or weight loss.

At the advanced stage severe on the right side of the abdomen, jaundice, pale stool, harden urine color, spiderlike blood vessels on the skin, redness in the palms of the hands.

Liver damage at this stage may cause loss of period in some women and loss of sex drive, breast enlargement or testicular atrophy in men.

In the severe case, patients also have symptoms of confusion, drowsiness and slurred speech.

Artichoke is a perennial thistle of Cynara cardunculus species of the Cynara genus, belonging to the family Carduoideae native to Southern Europe around the Mediterranean.

The herbal plant has been used in traditional medicine as a liver protective and detoxified agent, and to treat digestive disorders, abdominal pain gas and bloating, etc.

On finding a natural compound for enhancing the liver function, researchers at the Laboratoire de pharmacology examined the liver protective effects of artichoke (Cynara scolymus) leaf extract.

Injection of artichoke extract improved the liver function in the production of bile and liver lipid production and lipid recycling by lowering blood cholesterol.

In animal models, the liquid extracts of the roots and leaves of artichoke also found to demonstrate an ability to protect the liver, with possibly in enhancing liver cells regenerate.

Furthermore, administration of artichoke extract reduced the risk of cardiovascular disease by lowering risk factors associated with liver function in regulating cholesterol and triglycerides.

According to the therapeutic effects of artichoke on biochemical and liver biomarkers in patients with nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), artichoke improved the function of the liver by improving liver enzymes which were significantly reduced in NASH.

Taken altogether, artichoke may have a strong implication in improving the liver function in many aspects, pending to the validation of larger sample size and multicenter studies.

Fermented Cucumbers (Cucumis sativus), the Natural Probiotics to Human Health

Scientists may have found a bioactive ingredient for the prevention and treatment of neurodegeneration with no side effects, according to studies.

Probiotics are live bacteria and yeasts that play an essential role in the improvement of digestive functioning.

In other words, probiotics balanced the ratio of the gut microbiota by improving the levels of healthy organisms in the gut, particularly in people who are taking antibiotics, leading to the optimization of the digestive system in the absorption nutrients for the body needs such as supplying essential nutrients, synthesizing vitamin K, aiding in the digestion of cellulose, and promoting angiogenesis and enteric nerve function.

Where gut microbiota is the complex community of microorganisms that live in our gastrointestinal tracts.

Microbial imbalance or dysbiosis induced intestinal inflammation as a result of overexpression of bad organisms in the gut has been found to utilize a complex arsenal of virulence factors to colonize and persist in the intestine, implicating the development of intestinal diseases.

Some virulence factors such as the genotoxin colibactin, produced by overexpression of bad bacteria in the gut were found to promote colorectal cancer and chronic intestinal inflammatory diseases.

Dr, Yu-Jie Zhang, the lead scientists in the examined the importance of gut bacteria on Human Health wrote, "Gut bacteria are an important component of the microbiota ecosystem in the human gut, which is colonized by 1014 microbes, ten times more than the human cells".

And, " they (imbalanced ratio of gut microbiota) can also be potentially harmful due to the change of their composition when the gut ecosystem undergoes abnormal changes in the light of the use of antibiotics, illness, stress, aging, bad dietary habits, and lifestyle. Dysbiosis of the gut bacteria communities can cause many chronic diseases, such as inflammatory bowel disease, obesity, cancer, and autism".

Cucumber plant is a species of Cucumis Sativus, belongs to the family Cucurbitaceae and native to Western Asia. It is a creeping vine with roots in the ground and grows up with the support of frames.

With an aim to find potential and natural compound for the improvement of digestive health, researchers investigation the probiotic activity of cucumber.

According to the novel strain of lactic acid bacterium isolated from fermented cucumber, the ferment carbohydrates such as sucrose, dextrose, and arabinose showed a significant gastroprotective effect against antibiotics, including ciprofloxacin, kanamycin, vancomycin.

Furthermore, the isolate displayed potential probiotic properties in the improvement of the digestive health observed by hydrophobicity, autoaggregation, coaggregation, and in vitro cell adhesion ability.

Moreover, the isolate also exhibited resistance against bad bacteria and simulated gastric juice at pH 3.0.

Based on the findings researchers suggested that novel strain of lactic acid bacterium isolated from fermented cucumber protected the digestive tract against the injection of antibiotics, inhibited the production of bad bacteria such as gram-positive bacterial and utilized the effects of prebiotics such as inulin and raffinose.
Dr. Shukla R, the lead scientist said, " These results indicate both probiotic property and the glucansucrase-producing ability of P. pentosaceus CRAG3".

In vitro, in the evaluation of the probiotic potentials of three Bacillus strains 437F, 1630F and 1020G obtained from the traditional pickle researchers found that

* All strains only showed high acid, bile tolerance but also exhibited antagonistic activity against various pathogens.

* All strains exhibited antioxidant activity, auto- and co-aggregation ability and surface hydrophobicity and attachment capacity against the Caco-2 cells were similar to those of well-known probiotic strains.

* All strains are safe without causing harm to healthy colon cells.

Based on the findings, researchers said, "With respect to their characteristics and safety aspect, these Bacillus species may have potential to consider as probiotics for animal and/or human applications".

Taken altogether, cucumber may be considered supplements for the protection of digestive functioning, pending to the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.

Whole Food Tomatoes, The Vegetables Which Normalize the Blood Pressure in Hypertensive Patients

Scientists may have found a bioactive ingredient for the prevention and treatment of hypertension with no side effects, according to studies.

Hypertension is a medical condition characterized by abnormally high blood pressure.

Blood pressure is a measurement of a force against the walls of blood vessels that the heart pumps blood around the body.

Chronic and untreated high blood pressure has been associated epidemiologically with an increased risk of heart disease and stroke.

According to the statistics provided by the American Heart Association, there are over 103 million Americans living with high blood pressure.

In other words, nearly half of all adults in the US have hypertension.

According to the new definition in the measurement of blood pressure, the percentage of U.S. adults with high blood pressure jumped from 32 percent under the old definition to nearly 46 percent.

Most people with mild hypertension can control the blood pressure by a change of lifestyles such as a change to diet and exercise.

There are many prevalent factors associated with the onset of hypertension, including age, ethnicity and gender, diet, physical inactivity, exercise, and smoking.

Some researchers suggested widespread hypertension in the obese subjects may be correlated to the promotion of a high-fat diet over the past few decades.

Dr. Lia Taylor, the lead scientist wrote, "Diets high in fat and cholesterol have been linked to weight gain and hypertension, and T cell activation has been suggested to mediate these diet-induced changes in male animal models".

And, "a 4wk-HF diet increased BP and decreased renal anti-inflammatory T cells in female DSS rats. The loss of renal anti-inflammatory T cells is expected to lead to a more pro-inflammatory immune cell profile that may sensitize female DSS rats to HF-diet induced increases in BP".

Tomato is red, edible fruit, genus Solanum, belonging to the family Solanaceae, native to South America. Because of its health benefits, tomatoes are cultivated worldwide for commercial purpose and often in the greenhouse.

On finding a potential compound for the treatment of hypertension with no side effects, researchers assessed whether the addition of standardized tomato extract (STE) or acetylsalicylic acid (ASA) to standard antihypertensive therapy can improve BP control in patients with arterial hypertension (HT).

The study included 82 high-risk hypertensive patients with primary HT at high to a very high total CV risk were randomized in a blinded fashion to one of two groups, i.e. the ASA and STE group.

STE treated group showed a statistically significant reduction in 24-h systolic BP, diastolic BP, and mean arterial pressure values measured in ABPM after four weeks compared to ASA treated group.

Furthermore, after four weeks of treatment, the STE group exhibited a statistically significant reduction in pulse pressure (PP) during the daytime and during 24 h.
Moreover, STE treatment in obese patients also significantly decreased the day PP.

Based on the results, researchers said, "The results of this study show that the addition of STE to standard antihypertensive therapy improves BP control in hypertensive patients with high CV risk. This effect, together with the anti-aggregatory effect, may indicate the pleiotropic effect of tomato extract."

Additonally, in the study of 65 patients with arterial hypertension and high cardiovascular risk. researchers compared the influence of adding acetylsalicylic acid (ASA) or standardized tomato extract (STE) to standard hypotensive therapy on the values of arterial pressure and the daily blood pressure profiles of patients with hypertension and high cardiovascular risk.

All patients evaluated with high-risk of primary hypertension were randomly allocated in a blinded fashion to one of two groups (ASA or STE).

Similar to the aforementioned study, the blood pressure values during the day, during the night, and in 24-h BP profiles obtained with ABPM were significantly lower in the STE group in compared to the ASA group, after 4 weeks of treatment.

The addition of STE to standard hypotensive treatment resulted in a favorable increase in the nocturnal fall of diastolic blood pressure (DBP) (by 6.5%) and mean arterial pressure (MAP) (by 3.3%).

In other words, tomato normalized the blood pressure against the risk of CVD regardless of the levels of blood pressure.

Dr. Osińska AN, the lead scientist wrote in the final report, "The use of STE is significant in HT patients with high total cardiovascular risk; it is associated with better BP control and improvements in the daily BP profile.".

Taken altogether, tomatoes may be considered supplements for the prevention and treatment of hypertension, pending to the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.

Herbal Bilberry, the Potent Antioxidants, Researchers Reveal

Researchers may have found a natural whole food for the treatment of oxidative stress-related diseases with no side effects, according to the studies.

Oxidative stress is a result of long-term overexpression of free radical compared to the levels of antioxidants.

In other words, depletion of antioxidant enzymes produced by the body is no longer can perform the function of neutralizing the free radical expression.

Free radicals are unstable atoms which have an unpaired electron on the outer ring. Therefore, in order to maintain stable, free radicals must donate or intercept an electron from other atoms, causing the domino's reaction that can not be stopped until all single electrons are paired or inhibited by antioxidants.

Antioxidants are stable atoms which inhibit oxidation.

Oxidative stress has been found to induced protein, lipid and alternation of cellular DNA, leading to the incidence of chronic illness and cancers.

Futhermore, although free radicals are a normal byproduct of oxygen metabolism, certain environmental and behavioral factors such as exposure to radiation and toxic chemicals and smoking can dramatically increase the number of free radicals in the body.

Some researchers suggested, maintaining a balanced ratio free radicals and antioxidants are the best way for good health.

Dr. V. Lobo, the lead scientist in the evaluation of the free radicals and antioxidants wrote, " A balance between free radicals and antioxidants is necessary for proper physiological function. If free radicals overwhelm the body's ability to regulate them, a condition known as oxidative stress ensues. Free radicals thus adversely alter lipids, proteins, and DNA and trigger a number of human diseases".

And, "Hence application of an external source of antioxidants can assist in coping this oxidative stress. Synthetic antioxidants such as butylated hydroxytoluene and butylated hydroxyanisole have recently been reported to be dangerous for human health".

Bilberry is a species of low-growing shrubs in the genus Vaccinium, belonging to the family Ericaceae, native to Northern Europe.

The herbal plant has been used as foods and herbs in traditional medicine for the treatment of acute and chronic diarrhea, gastritis, gastric ulcer, and duodenal ulcer, enterocolitis, ulcerative colitis, anemia, cystitis, kidney disease, and psoriasis, diabetes, etc.

Scientists with an aim to find a natural remedy for the treatment of diseases associated with oxidative stress investigated the bilberry antioxidant activity in an animal model.

Selected rats were divided into 4 groups: control, rats treated with only gentamicin, with only bilberry, and treated with both gentamicin and bilberry.

By analyzing the oxidative stress markers and levels of antioxidant produced by the host, bilberry (100 mg/kg daily) showed a strong nephroprotective effect by improving the antioxidant status against gentamicin toxicity in rats.

These results clearly suggested that bilberry exerted a significant effect was attributed to the expression of the levels of the polyphenolic content, particularly anthocyanin.

Dr. after taking into account so and confounders said, " the demonstrated protective activity of bilberry extract matched well with the assessed in vivo and in vitro antioxidant activity as well as with its polyphenolic content, particularly with high anthocyanin levels".

In order to determine the antioxidant activity in bilberry, researchers examined the hepatoprotective effects of anthocyanins from bilberry extract in rats exposed to carbon tetrachloride (CCl4).

Rats selected to the study also were assigned randomly into four groups: Group I (0.9% NaCl-10days), Group II (bilberry extract, 75mg/kg-10days), Group III (0,9% NaCl-9days, and on the tenth day CCl4-2ml/kg), Group IV (bilberry extract, 75mg/kg-10days and on the tenth day CCl4-2ml/kg).

Compared to the nontreatment group, bilberry extract group showed a significant decrease in the activity of biochemical parameters in serum associated with liver damage, including the levels of free radicals and lipid peroxidation in the liver.

Furthermore, bilberry extract treatment group IV displayed a strong improvement of antioxidant enzymes produced by the host compared to Group III.

Injection of bilberry extract also showed an increase in the number of apoptotic hepatocytes and the activity of caspase-3 in the liver tissue which has been damaged by the injection of CCl4.

The findings suggested that the anthocyanins from bilberry extract have strong antioxidant properties against the CCl4 induced liver toxicity and oxidative stress.

Taken altogether, bilberry may be considered a functional remedy for the prevention and combined with the primary medicine for the treatment of diseases associated with oxidative stress, pending to the reconfirmation of larger sample size and multicenter human study.

Excessive Green Tea Drinking May Increase Risk of Infertility

Green tea is a popular beverage processed many health benefits, including a reduction in the risks of heart disease, diabetes, and cancer. However, excessive green tea drinking or overused of supplement over the long term can induce serious side effects.

Contrast to general belief, overdoses of green tea and green tea supplements may affect the function of male reproductive organs, according to studies.

In other words, excessive consumption of green tea a day may increase the risk of infertility, regardless of genders.

According to 2008 reports by the US Pharmacopeia, there are a number of cases of cytolytic and cholestatic liver damage associated with long term use or high usage of green tea products.

The Sapienza University of Rome, in the statement of hepatotoxicity of green tea, suggested, although there are many cases of green tea was found to cause liver toxicity, due to reactions induced by GT had a generally long latency (179.1 ± 58.95 days), but most patents were recovered within 2 - 3 months.

The University continued "Present data confirm a certain safety concern with GT, even if the number of hepatic reactions reported is low considering the great extent of use of this supplement".

The results suggested that our drinking green tea habit should not be altered due to the low incidence of liver toxicity.

If you are taking a green tea supplement, please follow the direction of the product carefully.

The University of California liver health team in the concern of green tea may increase the risk of male infertility, examined On finding a natural ingredient for the improvement of reproductive health with no side effects, researchers examined the green tea reproductive activity in Drosophila melanogaster.

The study included Drosophila melanogaster embryos and larvae exposed to various doses of green tea polyphenols (GTP).

According to the tested assay, larvae exposed to 10 mg/mL GTP were slower to develop, emerged smaller, and exhibited a dramatic decline in the number of emerged offspring.

Female offspring produced by GTP larvae group exhibited a decline in reproductive output and decreased survival while males were unaffected.

According to the observation of atrophic testes in males, mature eggs in females, GTP had a negative impact on reproductive organs in both males and females.

The results suggested that high dose of GTP may have an adverse effect on reproductive development and reproduction.

In the investigation of the gender-specific effects of green tea on the lifespan of fruit flies, researchers surprisingly found an inverse correlation between lifespan and reproduction, particularly in male reproductive fitness.

Truly, green tea negatively impacted male fertility as shown by a reduced number of offspring produced and increased mating latency.

After taking into account co and confounders, researchers suggested that green tea extends the lifespan of male flies by inhibiting reproductive potential, possibly by limiting iron uptake.

Dr. the lead scientist in the comparison of the previous human study said, " ...(The) results also support previous studies that suggest that green tea might have a negative effect on reproductive fitness in humans".

Taken all together, overdoses green tea and green tea supplements may have a negative impact in reproductive organs, regardless of gender, pending to the validation of larger sample and multicenter human study.

Anacardic acids, the Anti Pituitary Adenomas Bioactive Ingredient

Scientists may have found a natural ingredient for the prevention and treatment of pituitary adenomas with no side effects, according to studies.

Anacardic acids are phenolic lipids, phytochemicals of the organic acid found abundantly in cashews, mangoes, etc.

Pituitary adenomas are noncancerous tumors occurred in the pituitary gland.

A pituitary tumor has a negative and strong implication of the production of the thyroid-stimulating hormone, leading to a rare case of hyperthyroidism which normally induces the unintentional weight loss.

Most cases of the pituitary adenomas start in the cell of the inner lining of the tissue of the pituitary gland, due to the alternation of DNA. The tumor is well contained in the gland with no tendency of spreading.

At the early stage, patients with benign tumor do not experience any symptoms. However, when the tumor is growing larger, it may suppress the healthy tissue in the gland or nearby nerve cells, leading to symptoms of a headache, vision loss, and severe pain.

Epidemiological studies suggested that depending on the stage of the pituitary tumor, patients can experience hormone overproduction and hormone deficiency, leading to certain hormonal related diseases.

Depending on the size of the tumor and its effect on the patient's health, surgery may be the only option, if the tumor is pressing on the optic nerves or overproducing certain hormones.

In the concern of morbidity and complication of therapy in patients with pituitary adenomas, researchers examined the effect of Anacardic acids, a natural histone acetyltransferase inhibitor, on pituitary adenoma cells.

Epidemiological studies suggested that the progression of the benign pituitary tumor, if not treated, is a prevalent risk factor of the onset of malignant tumor pathogenesis.

Injection of anacardic acid exerted a significant anti antiproliferative and cytotoxic effect on pituitary adenoma cells.

According to the flow cytometry and Western blotting assays, anacardic acid inhibition of the tested cell line was associated with an increase the functions of the protein involved in a number of cellular processes in programming cell death and through cell cycle arrest on the G1 phase.

The marker used to detect cancer cell apoptosis, Annexin A5 (or annexin V), a cellular protein in the annexin group also increased after injecting the cancer cell with Anacardic acids.

In vitro and in vivo researchers found that administration of a pan-caspase inhibitor that irreversibly inhibits enzymatic function and effective in blocking apoptosis in a variety of cell types under normal condition has failed to reverse anacardic acid-induced cell death.

These results suggested that the bioactive induced cancer cell apoptosis through a possible nonclassical mechanism.

Furthermore, Anacardic acid the anti-cancer effect also suppressed the function of the survivin protein functions to exhibit negative regulation of apoptosis or programmed cell death and X-linked inhibitor of apoptosis protein (XIAP) associated with the anti-apoptotic function.

More importantly, the bioactive compound was found to deactivate the antiapoptotic proteins associated with cellular survival and radioresistance and radiosensitized pituitary adenoma cells.

The findings indicated that the chemical compound inhibited the onset and progression of pituitary adenomas through promoting cell cycle arrest, cancer apoptosis, programming cell death through some known and unknown mechanisms.

Taken all together, Anacardic acids may be used for the prevention and treatment of pituitary adenomas with no side effects, pending to the result of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.

Phytochemical Allicin, the Natural Anti Hyper Cholesterol Bioactive Compound

Allicin, the bioactive ingredient isolated from garlic may have a profound effect on the prevention and treatment of high blood cholesterol with no side effects, according to studies.

Allicin is phytochemical containing sulfur in the class of organosulfur compound, found abundantly in onion and garlic.

Hyperlipidemia is a condition characterized by abnormally high blood cholesterol in the bloodstream. In other words, the levels of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) are high compared to the high-density lipoprotein (LDL) in the blood.

The ideal blood cholesterol is less than 4 (levels of LDL)/ 1(levels of HDL).

Low-density lipoprotein is needed for our body to build cell walls, make hormones and vitamin D, and create bile salts that help you digest fat. However, overexpression of LDL can induce plaque accumulated on the arterial wall, leading to atherosclerosis, a major cause of cardiovascular disease.

Low-density lipoprotein is produced by the liver or from the dietary sources. High-density lipoprotein neutralizes the levels LDL by returning them to the liver.

Some researchers suggested that Diet high in trans fats, saturated fat, sugar, smoking, medical conditions such as diabetes or high blood pressure are associated with the increased risk of high blood cholesterol.

Epidemiological studies indicated a healthy diet that contains a high amount of fruits and vegetables and whole grain have a positive on blood cholesterol. In other words, hyperlipidemia can be prevented by a healthy diet.

Dr. Heather D. Mann, in the discussion of a healthy in the risk of hyperlipidemia, said, " Dietary modification is effective in achieving and maintaining improved serum lipid levels".

The finding clearly suggested that if you follow the diet with a high in saturated and trans fat, red meat and processed food and low in fruits and vegetables and whole grain, you are at the increased risk of high blood cholesterol.

High blood cholesterol does not cause symptoms, the American Heart Association recommends that all adults have their cholesterol checked every 4 to 6 years, starting at age 20, the age when cholesterol levels start to go up.

In the study of the effect of allicin on hypercholesterolemia in male ICR mice, the chemical constituent of garlic showed a positive effect not in reducing blood cholesterol, triglycerides, and glucose levels, as well as lowering the hepatic cholesterol storage, but also decreasing appetite daily.

Other in the study of the same but with rat fed with high cholesterol diet, showed a reduction of blood cholesterol, triglycerides levels and systolic blood pressure in hypercholesterolemic rats. These result showed that allicin may be considered as a potent agent in treating hyper cholesterol in the future.

On finding a natural ingredient for the prevention and treatment of high blood cholesterol, a widespread syndrome found in the Western world, researchers investigated the cholesterol-lowering properties of allicin, a bioactive compound isolated from garlic.

Hypercholesterolemia in male ICR mice selected for the study was given allicin, with doses of 5, 10, or 20 mg/kg body weight was given orally daily for 12 weeks.

After week 12, the body weights of allicin-fed mice were less than those of control mice on a high-cholesterol diet by 38.24 ± 7.94% (P < 0.0001) with 5 mg/kg allicin, 39.28 ± 5.03% (P < 0.0001) with 10 mg/kg allicin, and 41.18 ± 5.00% (P < 0.0001) with 20 mg/kg allicin, respectively.

Allicin fed group also showed the most decrease in daily food consumption compared to control.
Furthermore, allicin showed a strong effect in reducing blood cholesterol, triglycerides, and glucose levels and caused a significant decrease in lowering hepatic cholesterol storage.

These results suggested that allicin is a potential value in a cholesterol-lowering candidate, and may be used for the protection against the onset of atherosclerosis.

Moreover, in the evaluation of the effect of Lichtwer garlic powder (containing 1.3% alliin equivalent to 0.6% allicin) on the serum cholesterol, triglyceride, glucose, protein, and systolic blood pressure in rats fed with a 2% high cholesterol diet with and without garlic powder for 6 weeks, and control rats were fed a normal diet researchers found that* Rats fed with a high cholesterol diet mixed with garlic powder demonstrate a significant reduction in their serum cholesterol levels compared to the control group.

* Serum triglyceride levels were also significantly lowered by garlic powder when compared to control and high cholesterol diet group rats.

* The blood pressure of the high cholesterol diet animals was significantly higher compared to the animals receiving the control diet.

* The blood pressure of the animals receiving garlic powder and high cholesterol diet was significantly lower as compared to the high cholesterol and control diet group.

Once again, garlic with high amounts of allicin is beneficial in reducing blood cholesterol, triglycerides levels and systolic blood pressure in hypercholesterolemic rats.

Taken altogether, allicin on the garlic may be used daily for the prevention or treatment of high blood cholesterol with no side effects

Ginger, The Potential Anti Breast Cancer Functional Remedy, Studies Found

Ginger may be the next natural whole food for the prevention and treatment of breast cancer, without inducing any side effects, some scientists said.

Breast cancer is a medical condition caused by cell growth disorderly and irregularly in the breast tissue.

Most cases of primary breast cancer start either in the cell on the surface of the inner lining of milk ducts (Ductal carcinoma) or the lobules (Lobular carcinoma) that supply the ducts with milk.

At the early stage, some women may experience, lump (mass) in the breast or in the armpit (lymph nodes), nipple abnormal discharge, inverted or retracted nipple, scaly or pitted skin on the nipple and persistent tenderness of the breast.

Invasive primary breast cancer at the advanced stage, after penetrating deeper in the breast tissue, the malignant cells can travel a distance away to infect other healthy tissue and organs.

Metastatic breast cancer (also called stage IV) are mostly found in the liver, brain, bones, or lungs.

According to the World Health Organization, breast cancer is the most common cancer in women both in the developed and less developed world, causing the worldwide death of over 508 000 women in 2011.

In the US, In 2018, over 260,000 new cases of invasive breast cancer are expected to be diagnosed in women in the U.S., along with over 63,000 new cases of non-invasive (in situ) breast cancer.

The risk of an American woman diagnosed with breast cancer during her lifetime is 12.4%.

Early diagnosed with breast cancer can increase the chance of survival. The 5 years survival rate of women diagnosed with stage 0 and I is 100%.

The exact causes of breast cancer are unknown. However, researchers do know that genetic preposition, obesity, unhealthy diet and lifestyle such as smoking, excessive alcohol consumption are some most prevalent risk factors of breast cancer.

Some researchers also suggested that long-term use of oral contraceptive and psychological stress and anxiety are associated with the increased risk of the disease.

Dr, Kathleen E. Malone, in the concerns of oral contraceptive use in risk of breast cancer said, " In recent years, a large number of studies have focused on breast cancer risk in women under age 45. Meirik and colleagues (1986) published the first report suggesting a dose-response relationship with duration of oral contraceptive use among young women: for use of 8 to 11 years, an RR of 1.4 was found; for 12 or more years of use, a 2.2-fold excess risk of breast cancer was found. Paul and colleagues (1986) reported an RR of 4.6 for use of 10 or more years among women aged 25–34. McPherson and coworkers (1987) found an increased RR of 1.8 for use exceeding 11 years among a group of British women through age 45".

These results clearly indicated the risk of breast cancer is increased linearly to the years of the use of oral contraceptive.

On finding a nonexpensive natural ingredient and whole food for the prevention and treatment of breast cancer, researchers examine the anti-breast cancer effects of kombucha tea with or without ginger.

Selected BALB/c mice were given 2 types of kombucha tea with or without ginger before and after tumor challenge.

Administration of kombucha ginger tea demonstrated a significantly decreased catalase activity in the decomposition of hydrogen peroxide to water and oxygen and GSH and MDA level in tumor homogenate compared to kombucha without ginger.

Furthermore, mice group treated the combined products significant decrease in SOD activity and an increase in MDA quantity in the tumors.

Dr. Salafzoon S, the lead scientists said, " The consumption of kombucha prepared from ginger could exert minor antioxidant impacts by balancing multi-antioxidant factors in different tissues in the breast cancer models".

Moreover, in the investigation of [10]-gingerol anti-breast cancer activity, using human MDA-MB-231TNBC cells, compared to non-tumor MCF-10A breast cells, researchers suggested [10]-gingerol was able to inhibit cell adhesion, migration, invasion, and apoptosis more effectively in TNBC cells, without causing harm to the nearby healthy cells.

Additional analysis also found, [10] gingerol anti-breast cancer properties are associated with the apoptotic and genotoxic activity, through stimulating the free radicals overexpression in the induction of cancer cells cytotoxicity.

After taking into account co and confounders, the team said, " ...results found here are complementary to previous studies of group and others and demonstrate that additional mechanisms, besides apoptotic cell death, is used by [10]-gingerol to accomplish its antitumor and antimetastatic effects".

Taken altogether, ginger with abundant bioactive compounds may be considered a functional food for the prevention and combined with other primary therapy for the treatment of breast cancer with no side effects.
