The recipe of Melon lime smoothie

Recipe contributed by Raw, Quick and delicious! 5 ingredient recipes in just 15 minutes by Douglas McNish, Published by Robert Rose. You can visit them atwww.robertrose.ca

Juicy melon, fresh lime juice and tropical coconut oil make this a sweet, refreshing --and nutritious - smoothie for warm summer days.

To boost the protein content of your smoothie, try adding a scoop of your favorite protein powder -- I prefer hemp or sprouted brown rice protein. Both are available in natural foods store and well-stocked supermarket. Not all are raw, though, so be sure to read the labels.
1 cup Nut milk 250mL
1/2 cup chopped honeydew 125mL
3tbsp. freshly squeezed lime juice 45mL
2tbsp. melted coconut oil 30mL
1/4tsp. raw vanilla extract
In a blender combine nut milk, melon, lime juice, coconut oil and vanilla. Blend at high speed until smooth. Serve immediately. Make 2 cups (500mL)

In fact, under normal circumstances, Candida albicans that do not cause harmful effects, but overgrowth results in candidiasis(1)

The finding of a natural source for reduced risk and treatment of vaginal yeast infection to replace the conventional medicine has been running into many obstacles, many ingredients showed initially with promising result in animal studies have not produced same potentials in either large sample size and mutli centers human trials.

Yogurt, make from whole milk may consist a powerful ingredient for prevention and treatment of Vaginal yeast infection as its promote the suppression of C. albicans growth through Lactobacillus colonization the in the reproductive tract(2).
The study of the Central Emek Hospital, Afula, Israel, insisted, "daily ingestion of 150 mL of yogurt, enriched with live L acidophilus, was associated with an increased prevalence of colonization of the rectum and vagina by the bacteria, and this ingestion of yogurt may have reduced episodes of BV."(3).
Vitamin C found abundantly in orange, a water soluble vitamin, as free radical scavengers and regenerated oxidized vitamin E for immune support may be a potential ingredient for treatment of vaginal yeast infection(4).
Feminella Vagi C, a commercial product of Vitamin C (Ascorbic Acid) exhibited anti bacterial vaginosis (BV) and/or mycotic infection activity when used conjunction with Nifuratel, Nistatin)(5) leading to higher percentage of clinically recovery (86.7% vs 84.6%), better microbiological cleaning (86.7% vs 82.1%) and longer effect of treatment.

Ginger (Zingiber officinale) or ginger root is the genus Zingiber, belongings to the family Zingiberaceae, native to Tamil, used in traditional and Chinese medicine to treat morning sickness, gastroparesis, constipation,...etc. According to the Teikyo University Institute of Medical Mycology, ginger essential oils, and particularly those from seed and air-dried rhizomes, had potent inhibitory activity, particular the 6]-shogaol constituent(6).
Dr. Giriraju A and Dr. Yunus GY. said, " 10% ethanolic ginger extract showed: (a) Maximum zone of inhibition of 8 mm, 14 mm, and 11 mm against S. mutans, C. albicans, and E. faecalis respectively. (b) MIC of 1.25%, 2.5%, and 2.5% against S. mutans, C. albicans, and E. faecalis respectively"(7).
Interestingly, the Institute of Veterinary Sciences University Ibn-KhadounTiaret, study suggested that use of ginger starch may allow honey benefit in constituted an alternative way against the resistance to antifungal agents(8).

The effectiveness of Orange, Yogurt, Honey and Ginger may serve as cornerstones of pharmaceutical target for further studies in production of a potential medication for for Reduced Risk and treatment of  vaginal yeast infection with little or no adverse effects.

Women who are at increased risk of  vaginal yeast infection may drink at least one serving daily and women with  vaginal yeast infection may drink as much as they can, depending to the digestive toleration.

Imaging of long term intake of delicious smoothies loved by many with the power of reduced risk and treatment of chronic illness with no one mentions about. In fact, it happens. Epidemiological studies with strong evidences suggested that blueberry oral administration hold a potential with therapeutic values for reduced risk of women who carry the mutation gene and treatment of breast cancer(*).

The curable smoothies are collection of recipes produced from natural sources, including organic fruits and vegetables, and some herbs which have been proven effectively for reduced risk and treatment for diseases and syndromes by scientific research of clinical trials and/or studies.

The finding of foods from natural sources has been a dream of scientists and scholars since ancient time. Socrates Said," Let foods be your medicine and let medicine be your foods". Let all of us all exercise the values of the past wisdom to build a letter living and living health while enjoining these delicious drinks.

Recent studies by some renowned institutions suggested that Potassium citrate(baking soda) found abundantly in Kidney Bean, Avocado and Apricot  may be the next generation of ingredient extracted from natural sources for reduced risk and treatment of Distal renal tubular acidosis.
Distal renal tubular acidosis (Type I RTA) is a condition of acid builded up in the blood as a result of a defect in the kidney tubes.

Potassium citrate(baking soda), a form of potassium often found naturally in foods, such as kidney bean, avocado and apricot, etc. may be effective for treatment of Distal renal tubular acidosis(1). According to the Mahidol University, 4 mEq/kg/d of potassium citrate supplement can correct successfully most of the urinary abnormalities and the elevated urinary saturation for calcium oxalate in patients with distal renal tubular acidosis(1). The study of children who have distal RTA and were followed-up for 4 months also indicated the effects of potassium citrate in normalized serum bicarbonate and decreased the risk of calcium oxalate stone but not calcium phosphate stone in children with distal RTA(2).
Dr. Preminger GM and colleagues in the evaluation of the effectiveness of potassium citrate therapy in patients with distal renal tubular acidosis, said, " The results support the potential clinical advantage of potassium citrate therapy in patients with distal renal tubular acidosis and recurrent calcium nephrolithiasis"(3).

The effectiveness of Kidney Bean, Avocado and Apricot may serve as cornerstones of pharmaceutical target for further studies in production of a potential medication for reduced risk of complications and treatment of  Distal renal tubular acidosis(Type I RTA) with little or no adverse effects.

People who are at high risk of  Distal renal tubular acidosis(Type I RTA) due to genetic mutation should drink no more than 4 servings daily, depending to digestive toleration.
Life style and diet pattern change are necessary.

The smoothie for prevention and treatment of  Acute kidney failure in Analgesic Nephropathy(Bardoxolone)
Yield: 2 servings (about 8 ounces each)

1/2 cup tomato
1 cup blueberry
1 cup green tea drink (Make from 4 grams of green tea, a slice of ginger and a cup of hot water lipped for 5 minutes, and let cool to room temperature)

1. Place all ingredients in a blender and puree about 1 minute
2. Blend on high speed about 1 minute or until the mixture is thick and the ice is well crushed.
3. Serve immediately

The finding of a natural source for treatment of Acute kidney failure in Analgesic Nephropathy has been running into many obstacles, many ingredients showed initially with promising result in animal studies have not produced same potentials in large sample size and mutli centers human trials.

Analgesic nephropathy is several kidney diseases caused by analgesic medications such as aspirin, phenacetin, and paracetamol, Bardoxolone.
Acute kidney failure is the rapid (less than 2 days) loss of your kidney function in removed waste and  balanced fluids and electrolytes in your body. According to the Vrije Universiteit Brussel and Academic Hospital of the Vrije Universiteit Brussel, the progression of acute kidney failure also altered antioxidant defense in mouse adriamycin model(1), due to increased oxidative stress(2).

Recent studies back by well known institutions proposed, Green tea, Tomato and Bluebberry may be the next generation of natural ingredients for prevention and treatment of Acute kidney failure in Analgesic Nephropathy

Green tea has been a precious drink in traditional Chinese culture and used exceptional in socialization for more than 4000 thousand years. Due to its commercial values and health effects, green tea now has been cultivated all over the world in suitable climate. According to the study led by the Kyoto University Graduate School of Medicine, epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG) is a major component of the polyphenolic fraction of green tea, ameliorated (Acute kidney failure) AKI in a cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) model of diabetic rats through antioxidative properties(3).
In a small piglet model of extracorporeal circulation, the phytochemical also exhibited reno protective effects through its antioxidant, antiapoptotic and NO-scavenging properties(4).
Dr. Nasri H and professors led by the Isfahan University of Medical Sciences said," beneficial property of green tea, against renal toxicity of contrast media was observed. Green tea extract is an inexpensive, nontoxic, and effective treatment modality in individuals with a risk for acute kidney injury of contrast media"(5).

Resveratrol, a phytochemical in the class of Stilbenoids, found abundantly grape and blueberry also
exhibited anti acute kidney diseases by prevented endotoxin-induced disruption of endothelial cell permeability and inhibited inflammation of kidney tissue(6).
According to the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, resveratrol reduced the mortality rate of patients who develop acute kidney injury during sepsis through improvement in capillary perfusion and increased renal blood flow and the glomerular filtration rate without raising systemic pressure(7).
Dr. Kim DH and colleagues at the Chonbuk National University said, " Resveratrol expressed modulation of p53 (antigen), by SIRT1 (in several separated cellular functions), could be a possible target to attenuate cisplatin-induced kidney injury"(8).

Lycopene found abundantly in tomato, a derivative of carotenoids also expressed nephroprotective effect against cisplatin-induced acute kidney injury in rats, according to the Firat University(9).
The Federal University of Santa Maria study, proposed " lycopene could plays a beneficial role in acute renal failure against HgCl(2) toxicity by preventing lipid peroxidation and changes in the activity of delta-aminolevulinate dehydratase and antioxidant enzymes"(10).
Dr. Ateşşahin A and colleagues in the investigation of the possible protective role of antioxidant treatment with lycopene on cyclosporine A-induced nephrotoxicity using biochemical and histopatological approaches found that natural antioxidant lycopene might have protective effect against cyclosporine-induced nephrotoxicity and oxidative stress in rat(11).

The effectiveness of  Green tea, Tomato and Blueberry may serve as cornerstones of pharmaceutical target for further studies in production of a potential medication for reduced risk, complications and treatment of Acute kidney failure in Analgesic Nephropathy with little or no adverse effects.

People who are at high risk of Acute kidney failure in Analgesic Nephropathy due to side effects of Bardoxolone should drink no more than 4 servings daily, depending to digestive toleration.

Life style and diet pattern change are necessary.

The smoothie for Prevention and treatment of Polyuria

Yield: 2 servings (about 8 ounces each)
1 cup low fat milk
1 cup green tea drink (Make from 4 grams of green tea, a slice of ginger and a cup of hot water lipped for 5 minutes, and let cool to room temperature)

1. Place all ingredients in a blender and puree about 1 minute
2. Blend on high speed about 1 minute or until the mixture is thick and the ice is well crushed. Add more green tea drink if needed
3. Serve immediately
Recent studies by some renowned institutions suggested that green tea(1) and low fat milk may be the next generation of ingredient extracted from natural sources for reduced risk and treatment of Focal proliferative nephritis.

Focal proliferative nephritis is a type of glomerulonephritis seen in 20% to 35% of causes of lupus nephritis.

Green tea has been a precious drink in traditional Chinese culture and used exceptional in socialization for more than 4000 thousand years. Due to its commercial values and health effects, green tea now has been cultivated all over the world in suitable climate. Its phytochemical (-)-epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), exhibited prophylactic effects in enhancing the Nrf2 in regulation of antioefxidant signaling pathway and decreasing renal NLRP3 in activation of pro inflammatory pathways(1).

Cholecalciferol (vitamin D3) found abundantly in low fat milk may also benefit patients of g glomerulonephritis induced by systemic lupus(SLE). According to the Universidade Federal de São Paulo-Escola Paulista de Medicina, vitamin D analogs modulated the immune system in prevention of autoimmune diseases in induced kidney inflammation(2).
It is said that vitamin D also involved in the attenuated physiopathology of bone metabolism disturbance in patients with lupus nephritis.

The effectiveness of Green Tea and Low Fat Milk may serve as cornerstones of pharmaceutical target for further studies in production of a potential medication for prevention and treatment of Focal proliferative nephritis with little or no adverse effects.

People who are at high risk of Focal proliferative nephritis due to systemic lupus(SLE) and people with Focal proliferative nephritis should drink no more than 4 servings daily, depending to digestive toleration.

Life style and diet pattern change are necessary.

Vitamin B6
Vitamin B6, also known as pyridoxine, is a water soluble vitamin found abundantly in green peas, yams, broccoli, asparagus and turnip greens,Peanuts, sunflower seeds, cashews and hazelnuts, meat, fish etc., with functions of amino acid, carbohydrate metabolism, brain health, and liver detoxification, etc.

The Effect of Vitamin B6 on Cervical Cancer

Epidemiological studies focusing vitamin B6 in reduced risk of cervical cancer have produced conflict results(a)(b)(c)(d). According to the American Cancer Society's, in 2014, 12,360 new cases of invasive cervical cancer will be diagnosed with the death of 4,020 patients. The risk of cervical cancer is higher in Hispanic women followed by African-Americans, Asians and Pacific Islanders, and whites(e).

Suggestions of polymorphisms in genes related to folate metabolism modify the association of dietary and circulating folate and vitamin B-6 with cervicalneoplasia, according to the study of Dr.Cardoso MA and the research team(1). In the study of Vitamin B6 status in patients with cancer of the uterine cervix, researchers found that 23-35%the patients with cervical cancer, a 23-35% are associated with deficiency of vitamin B6(2). Other in the research of serum homocysteine and cervical cancer risk indicated a strongly and significantly predictive of invasive cervical cancer risk associated with folate, B12 and/or B6 inadequacy, or genetic polymorphisms affecting one-carbon metabolism(3). In a multiethnic case-control study for examination of the association of dietary folate and MTHFR genotype with the odds ratios (ORs) for cervical dysplasia among women identified from several clinics on Oahu, Hawaii, between 1992 and 1996 indicated that dietary intakes of folate, vitamin B(6), and vitamin B(12) were inversely related to the ORs for cervical squamous intraepithelial lesions (SILs)(4). The study at the University of Arizona, showed that folate, vitamin B12, vitamin B6, and methionine may function to prevent cervical cancer through their role in DNA methylation(5)

Taken altogether, intake of Vitamin B6 may be related to reduced risk of cervical cancer in patients with deficiency and through its function in in DNA methylation. Over doses may induced the symptoms of difficulty coordinating movement, numbness, sensory changes, etc., please make sure you follow the guideline of the Institute of Medicine of the National Academies. Vitamins are organic compounds and vital nutrients needed by your body to grow and develop in a profound way.

Vitamin B5
Vitamin B5, also known as Pantothenic acid, is a water-soluble vitamin found abundantly in whole-grain cereals, legumes, eggs, meat, royal jelly, avocado, and yogurt. The vitamin plays an important role in synthesized and metabolized proteins, carbohydrates, and fats.

The Effect of Vitamin B5 on Skin Aging

Skin aging is one of most visible process which occurs constantly in our skin organ. According to the Clinical Centre of Nis, certain plant extracts may have the ability to scavenge free radicals, to protect the skin matrix through the inhibition of enzymatic degradation, or to promote collagen synthesis in the skin, affect skin elasticity and tightness(a). Other suggested that free radicals induced domino effects in production of reactive oxygen species, can react with DNA, proteins, and fatty acids, causing oxidative damage and impairment of antioxidant system, leading injuries damage regulation pathways of skin, including wrinkles, roughness, appearance of fine lines, lack of elasticity, and de- or hyperpigmentation marks(b).

According to 1Nutrition Science Solutions LLC, in the study of Hass avocados, containing high amounts of pantothenic acid and other antioxidants, showed a positive effect in supported cardiovascular health and might support weight management and healthy aging(1). A facial lotion containing vitamins B3 and E and provitamin B5, showed a significantly reduced appearance of hyperpigmentation, improved skin tone evenness, appearance of lightening ofskin in a total of 246 women randomized to treatment, 207 (84%) completed the study(2). Panthenyl triacetate, a Water- and oil-soluble derivative of pantothenic acid (vitamin B5) used combination with Ethyl linoleate (bioactive complex) and given both pre- and post-irradiation, showed to stimulate the repairing enzyme expression caused by skin photo-ageing induced accumulation of oxidized protein(3). Composition of Dead Sea (DS) mud and other ingredients like DS water, zinc oxide, aloe-vera extract, pro-vitamin B5 and vitamin E, exhibited its protective, anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory properties antagonized biological effects of UVB irradiation in skin(4). Topical application of Dexpanthenol, asupplemental source of pantothetic acid considerably improved the symptoms ofskin irritation, such as dryness of the skin, roughness, scaling, pruritus, erythema, erosion/fissures, over 3 to 4 weeks, according to the study by 1Technical University of Munich, Allershausen(5) and enhanced skin barrier repair and stratum corneum hydration, while reduced skin roughness and inflammation(6).

Taken altogether, vitamin B5 may be effective in reduced the onset of skin aging and aging progression through its antioxidant activity, but further studies are necessary to confirm its claim. Vitamins are organic compounds and vital nutrients needed by your body to grow and develop in a profound way.

Vitamin B12
Vitamin B12, also known as cobalamin, a water-soluble vitamin, found abundantly in a variety of foods, such as fish, shellfish, meat, eggs, dairy products, etc. plays an important role in regulating the functions of nervous system and formation of blood.

The Effect of Vitamin B12 on Breast Cancer

Breast cancer (malignant breast neoplasm) is a cancer started in the tissues of the breast either from the inner lining of milk ducts (Ductal carcinoma) or thelobules (Lobular carcinoma) that supply the ducts with milk. there is also rare cases of breast cancer started in other areas of the breast. In 2010, over 250,000 new cases of breast cancer were expected to be diagnosed in women in the U.S. alone and the risk of getting invasive breast cancer during life time of a women is 1/8.

Epidemiological studies linking levels of plasma of vitamin B12 in reduced risk of breast cancer have produced inconclusive results. In premenopausal women, Plasma vitamin B(12) levels were inversely associated with breast cancer risk(1)(1a)(1b)(1c). Unfortunately, in the study of the same, showed vitamin B-12, may confer little or no reduction in overall risk of developing breast cancer (2)(3)(3a).
In human breast cancer cell line, MCF-7 and normal mammary cells, MCF-10A, lipotropes containing methionine, choline, folate, and vitamin B12, showed an decrease of expression of bcl-2 in regulating apoptosis in lipotrope-treated MCF-7 cells of these suggestion of blocking Bcl-2 might prove useful in sensitizing tumor cells to chemotherapy-induced apoptosis(4). In rat fed with Lipotropes showed a reduction of tumor multiplicity and tumor volume significantly through decreased expression of histone deacetylase 1 (Hdac1) and DNA methyltransferase 1 (Dnmt1) genes in tumor tissues of the rats(5). In the study of Maternal high-methyl diet, Lipotropes showed significantly decreased tumor incidence, tumor multiplicity and tumor volume, while also displaying a significant increase in survival rate and tumor latency in rat offspring(6) and enhanced the efficacy of chemo durgs, SAHA and DOX through induced apoptosis, inhibited cell growth, and displayed anti-proliferation(7).

Taking all together, one can say that the effective of vitamin B12 in reduced risk of breast cancer and enhanced the efficacy of chemo-drugs was found in conjunction with other members of the methyl group but not the vitamin itself. Over doses of the vitamin may induce symptoms of toxicity, including headache, giddiness and abnormal heart functioning, etc., please make sure to follow the guideline of the Institute of Medicine of the National Academies.

Vitamins are organic compounds and vital nutrients needed by your body to grow and develop in a profound way.

The Effect of Vitamin B6 on Ovarian Cancer

Ovarian cancer is defined as a condition of abnormal cells growth of ovaries. It is one of most common cancer in US, according to the statistics adapted from the American Cancer Society's publication, Cancer Facts & Figures 2010, an estimated 21,880 women in the United States will be diagnosed with ovarian cancer and 13,850 deaths.

Depending to the stage and grade of the cancer, chemotherapy such as cisplatin, carboplatin, paclitaxel, liposomal doxorubicin may be necessary to prevent the spread and recurrence of the cancer. Epidemiological studies focusing in vegetables and fruits in reduced risk and treatment of ovarian cancer have not been conclusive(a)(b)(c)(d), some vitamins have showed to inhibit the progression of cancer with little or no side effects.

Epidemiological studies, linking vitamin B6 in reduced risk of ovarian cancer have been inconsistent.
The study of the Brigham and Women's Hospital, Boston, indicated that intake of one-carbon metabolism related nutrients, especially vitamin B(6) and methionine, may lower ovarian cancer risk (1). In 80,254 Nurses' Health Study participants, during 22 years of follow-up (1980-2002), researchers found little evidence to support dietary folate, methionine, and vitamin B(6) in related ovarian cancerrisk(2), But
in the study to compare the effectiveness of acupuncture plus vitamin B6 PC6 points injection of 142 patients, between March 1, 2006, and June 30, 2008 indicated that acupuncture plus vitamin B6 PC6 points injection relieved nausea and vomiting in patients with ovarian cancer, undergoing a highly emetogenic chemotherapy regimen(3). In a total of 248 analyzable patients with Stages III-IVovarian epithelial cancer (114 with and 134 without prior chemotherapy) conducted by the Albert Einstein Cancer Center, showed that although administration of pyridoxine significantly reduced neurotoxicity, its adverse effect on response duration suggests that the agent should not be administered with cisplatin (DDP) and hexamethylmelamine (HMM) regimens(4). In the assessed dietary intakes and factors associated with diet in women with family history of breast and/or ovarian cancer (FHBOC) study, suggest that women with FHBOC should be encouraged to meet dietary guidelines for cancer prevention, including intake of vitamin B6(5).

Taking altogether, vitamin B6 may be associated to reduced risk and treatment of ovarian cancer when it is used in conjunction with acupuncture, but further study with large sample and multi center studies are necessary to improve the validation. Over doses may induced the symptoms of difficulty coordinating movement, numbness, sensory changes, etc., please make sure you follow the guideline of the Institute of Medicine of the National Academies.

The incidence of endometrial cancer among white women are higher in comparison of black. According to the statistic, the risk of endometrial cancer among women is 1 in 7000. Every year, about 40,000 women in US are diagnosed with the disease. Women who carry certain mutation genes, such as BRCA1 or the BRCA2 are associated to increased risk of endometrial cancer.

Epidemiological studies linking vitamin B6 in reduced risk of endometrial cancer have been inconclusive, but the composition of vitamin B6 and other micro nutrient have found to be effective in some studies. One-carbon metabolism in 26 years of follow-up data from the Nurses' Health Study, do not appear to influenceendometrial cancer incidence but showed protective effect for women with MTHFR 677 TT or MTHFR 1298 CC genotype(1) and a case of case-control study in Greece, indicated that intkae of Retinol, nicotinic acid, vitamin B- 6, and riboflavin were inversely associated with the disease(2).
But in a study between 1997 and 2003, 1,204 newly diagnosed endometrial cancercases and 1,212 controls recruited among women between the ages of 30 and 69 years in urban Shanghai, China, showed dietary intake of vitamin B6 was not related to risk of endometrial cancer for women with enzyme 5,10-methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR), encoded by the MTHFR gene(3). Due to small size of some studies, some researchers suggested that large example size and multi centers studies are necessary to validate the effectiveness of any micro nutrient in endometrial cancer risk.

Taking altogether, without going into reviews, the composition of vitamin B6 and other micro nutrients may be effective in reduced risk and treatment of endometrial cancer. Over doses may induced the symptoms of difficulty coordinating movement, numbness, sensory changes, etc., please make sure you follow the guideline of the Institute of Medicine of the National Academies.

The smoothie for women with high risk of breast cancer, including Atypical lobular hyperplasia (ALH) of  Fibrosclerosis of breast
Yield: 2 servings (about 8 ounces each)
1 1/2 cups Blueberries
1 cup rice milk
4-6 ice cubes

1. Place all the ingredients in a blender.
2. Blend on high speed about 1 minute or until the mixture is thick and the ice is well crushed.
3. Serve immediately.

The dream of finding of a natural ingredient for replacement of serious side effects of chemotherapy for treatment of breast caner has been extremely difficult, probably due to physical differences in testing subjects.

According to the degree of fibroplastic proliferation, proliferative disease of breast can be divided into three types: lobular hyperplasia type, fibroadenosis type and fibrosclerosis type(10)

Where atypical lobular hyperplasia (ALH) is also an abnormal appearing growth of cells within lobules of the breast that is associated with an increased risk of subsequent breast cancer.
According to the Medical University of Vienna, due to the risk of underestimation, surgical excision is often performed. But the analysis of imaging and histopathological characteristics could help identifying low-risk cases, for which surgery is not necessary(11).

In 2010, over 250,000 new cases of breast cancer were diagnosed in women in the U.S. alone and the risk of getting invasive breast cancer during life time of a women is 1/8.

Blueberry, a flower plant, belong to the family Eriaceae and native to Northern America contains several essential phytochemicals and nutrients, including, lutein and zeaxanthin, zinc, potassium, phosphorus, iron, calcium and vitamins.

Blueberry or whole blueberry powder may hold a key for reduced risk breast cancer and for treatment of the diseases. Recent studies insisted that intake of the fruits and the fruit products showed to the improve the survival rate of women with breast cancer.

In estrogen-mediated breast cancer, blueberry-supplemented diet protect women against breast cancer induced by 17β-estradiol (E2)-mediated mammary tumorigenesis(breast cancer)(1) in animals received 5% blueberry diet, either 2 weeks prior to or 12 weeks study.Dr. Ravoori S and the research team at the University of Louisville suggested, the effectiveness of blue berry for treatment of breast cancer may be a result of the exhibition of its phytochemicals reducing mammary tissue proliferation and tumor burden, tumor latency(2).

In fact the intake of berries reduced significantly mammary tumor incidence (10-30%) by suppressing the levels of E(2) to prevent the early onset of E(2) breast cancer(3).
Dr. Aiyer HS and Gupta RC. said, blueberries and other berries promote anti proliferation and apoptosis of breast cancer cell is due its effects in modulating enzymes of estrogen metabolism.

In breast cancer cell lines MCF7 and MDA-MB-231, pterostilbene, a phytochemical found in blueberries, effectively suppressed tumorigenesis and metastasis of cancer stem cells (CSCs) through reduced expressions in promoted(4) and increased tumor cell proliferation of breast cancer(5).

Addition to that, the joint study lead by the Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee showed that pterostilbene not only expressed itself as a effective inducer of apoptosis in human breast in affecting various cellular targets, it also may be a chemopreventive potential based on its stronger anti-proinflammatory cytokines and anti-inflammatory activities against many forms of diseases(6).

In the study of MCF7, Hs578t and MDA-MB-231 breast cancercell lines, pterostilbene suppressed tumor growth and metastasis in MDA-MB-231, the triple-negative breast cancer and Hs578t cells through inhibition of the migratory and invasive potential by blocking the initiate the metastatic process(7).

Further more, the phytochemical also found to inhibit breast cancer regardless of estrogen receptor (ER-α36 positive or negative breast cancer)status by inducing apoptosis(8) and anti-proliferation(9), with or without the execution of cell death in apoptotic cells(8).

The finding of the effectiveness of blueberry and its phytochemical pterostilbene may serve as a cornerstone of pharmaceutical target for further studies as well as a protential medication for treatment of breast disease.

Women who are at high risk of breast cancer such as genetic mutation genes BRCA1 and BRCA2 should drink at least one cup daily and women with breast cancer should drink the juices as much as they can depending to digestive toleration.
