Cinnamon, The Natural Heart Disease Inhibitor Remedy, Scientists Reveal

A recent study suggested that cinnamon reduces the risk of heart disease through its antioxidant, chemopreventive, anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory properties.

Heart disease kills more than 2,000 Americans every day and approximately 60 million Americans have heart disease.

Anything that damages the inner lining of blood vessels and impedes the transportation of oxygen and nutrition to the heart can be defined as a risk of heart disease.

There are many causes of heart diseases, depending on general types of defect. However, certain risk factors such as smoking, high blood pressure, abnormally high levels of triglyceride and cholesterol and abnormally high levels of sugar in your blood due to diabetes or insulin resistance are associated to the increased risk of heart disease.

An unhealthy diet is found to be an important risk factor in coronary heart disease. Foods that increased risks of obesity, high blood pressure, also has a strong impact in elevating the risk of heart disease.

Certain medical conditions such as uncontrolled diabetes and longterm diet with high in saturated and trans fats and salts, refined sugar, processed food and less in fruits and vegetables and fibers can substantially increase the risk of developing heart disease.

Mutated gene inherited from the parents, sedentary lifestyle, excessive alcohol consumption, poor hygiene, and longterm stress is also considered significant risk factors of the disease.

These results suggested that heart disease can be prevented if you people follow lifelong healthy eating and lifestyle.
Cinnamon is a spice derived from the inner bark of a tree, native to South East Asia, of over 300 species of the genus Cinnamomum, belonging to the familyLauraceae.

The herb has been used in herbal and traditional medicine as anti-fungal and bacteria level to improve reproductive organ, prevent flatulence and intestinal cramping, treat indigestion, diarrhea, bad breath, headache, migraine, etc.

In the examine the anti-heart disease of Cinnamomum verum (family Lauraceae), a medicinal global plant that is used daily by people all over the world for reducing blood pressure, plasma glucose, obesity and ameliorating dyslipidemia, a cluster of metabolic syndrome and risk factors of heart disease., researchers launched a search of literature in the databases such as PubMed, Science Direct, Scopus, Web of Science, Google Scholar and Persian Websites.

The keywords search were cinnamon, Cinnamomum, cinnamaldehyde, atherogenic, hypertension, hyperglycemia, insulin resistance, obesity, and dyslipidemia. All studies satisfied the criteria and guidelines are include in the evaluation.

Most studies suggested that cinnamon is a cardiovascular protective agent and has a potential effect in reducing MetS complications due to its anti-diabetic, anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory and beneficial effects in lipid profile.

Cinnamon also processed various types of antioxidants and activities in increasing the host antioxidant enzymes such as SOD, GPX, and CAT that leads to the elimination of ROS as well as decreasing lipoperoxidation (LPO) level and decreases the risk of heart disease and mortality.

The National and international dietary recommendations are to eat between five and 10 servings of fruit and vegetables daily to ensure adequate intake of acute and chronic disease-fighting antioxidant nutrients, including heart disease.

Dr. Hamid Mollazadeh, the lead researchers said, "The antiatherosclerotic effects and prevent vascular diseases of cinnamon resulted from inhibition of vascular smooth muscle cell proliferation through blockade of thromboxane A2 (TXA2) receptors mediated proliferation by cinnamon" and "Cinnamophilin, a lignin isolated from C. philippinense, inhibited in vitro human platelet aggregation, alongside [3H] inositol monophosphate formation, thromboxane B2 (TXB2) content".

However, in the concerns of antioxidant effects through the intake of individual antioxidant such as supplementation, the Cleveland Clinic in the article wrote, "Vitamin E did not provide any benefit in lowering mortality compared to control treatments, and it did not significantly decrease the risk of cardiovascular death or stroke" and "Beta-carotene led to small but statistically significant increase in all-cause mortality and a slight increase in cardiovascular death".

The joint study led by the North Khorasan University of Medical Sciences, also suggested the use of cinnamon for prevention and treatment of CVD, probably due to its activities in inhibition of metabolic syndrome (MetS), the leading cause of heart diseases.

In support of the above suggestion, some recent studies reaffirm the importance of cinnamon as a spice and maybe a natural remedy to treat cardiovascular diseases.

Furthermore, intake of cinnamon powder also exerted a beneficial effect on glycaemic control in animals and human models, affecting the progression of metabolic alterations in the early stage of cardiovascular events.

Dr. Deng said, "The hypoglycemic effects of cinnamon and .... were demonstrated in most of the trials with some exceptions" and " Future studies with more defined participants, standardized preparation and dose, and improved trial design and size are warranted".

Taken together, cinnamon may be beneficiary for the prevention, management, and treatment of heart disease, but the quantity used of cinnamon should only be prescribed by a herbalist in the prevention of toxicity.

Herbal Fennel, The Natural Alternative to Antibiotics With No Side Effects

Fennel may be the next natural antibiotics used for the treatment of diseases caused bacterial infection with no side effects, some researchers suggested.

Although most micro bacteria are harmless, some are pathogenic.

Most common bacterial pathogens that cause human diseases are Staphylococcus aureus and group A β-hemolytic streptococci.

According to a statistic provided by the World Health Organization, approximately, 50,000 men, women and children are dying from infectious diseases every day worldwide.

Some researchers suggested that over span decades or centuries, the epidemiological transition provides the central narrative of global health, including a reduction in mortality and creation of larger and older populations in which the main causes of illness are chronic infectious diseases.

Although in comparison to the third world, the prevalence of infectious diseases in the UK has reduced dramatically over the last century, the rate of infectious diseases caused by pathogen still has a strong and negative impact in major health, social and economic issues.

Each year in the UK, infectious diseases were found to cause 576 of days lost due to disability, out of 1000 population, according to statistic reported by Somerset Intelligence.

Most common symptoms of infectious diseases include fever, diarrhea, fatigue, tiredness, muscle aches,..... coughing. However, signs and symptoms may vary, depending on the pathogen, causing the infection.

Fennel is a species of Foeniculum Vulgare, belonging to the family Apiaceae (Umbelliferae), native to the shores of the Mediterranean. It is now widely cultivated all around the globe to use as food and herb.

In the study to examine 3 different essential oils from grown cultivars of Egyptian fennel, researchers found that according to chromatography/mass spectrometry analysis, all chemical compounds isolated from 3 essential oil processing a strong antioxidant activity in inhibited pathogenic bacteria including two species of fungi, two species of Gram-negative and two species of Gram-positive bacteria.

Further analysis also suggested that the efficacy of compounds isolated from essential oil from 3 species of fennel was attributed to its free radical scavenging, anti-lipid peroxidation, and metal chelating properties.

Additionally, in the observation of essential oils antioxidant activity from Foeniculum vulgare commercial aerial parts and fruits isolated by hydrodistillation, researchers at the Universidade do Algarve conducted an experiment, using different distillation times (30 min, 1 h, 2 h and 3 h), and analyzed by GC and GC-MS in isolated chemical compounds from obtained fennel essential oil.

According to the analysis of the agar diffusion method. trans-Anethole (31-36%), alpha-pinene (14-20%) and limonene (11-13%), the main components of the essentials oil isolated from F. vulgare dried aerial parts and exerted a significant antibacterial activity compared to methyl chavicol (= estragole) (79-88%) dominant in the fruit oils.

In the DPPH method, according to the measurement of oxidative stress, plant essential oils showed better antioxidant activity compared to the fruit's oils.

Dr, Miguel MG, the lead author wrote at the end of the experimental report, "None of the oils showed a hydroxyl radical scavenging capacity > 50%, but they showed an ability to inhibit 5-lipoxygenase. The essential oils showed a very low antimicrobial activity. In general, the essential oils isolated during 2 h were as effective, from the biological activity point of view, as those isolated during 3 h".

These results suggested that the effect of chemical compounds in inhibited pathogenic bacteria is isolated time dependable. Only those isolated less than 2 hours are processed strong antibacterial capability.

Coffee, The Beverage Which Detoxes Our Body Against Chemo-Drugs, Radiation and Chemicals Toxins, Scientists Say

Coffee and coffee caffeine may have a profound and positive effect in detoxification of genotoxicity, caused by chemo-drugs, radiation, and environmental chemicals toxins, some scientists suggested.

Genotoxicity is the activity of substances that can cause alternation of DNA of healthy cells to promote irregular cells growth. In other words, genotoxicity is an action that induces cancers.

Genotoxins are gene mutagens which have the property of genotoxicity, including radiation and chemical toxins.

Coffee, a popular and social beverage all over the world, particularly in the West, is a drink made from roasted bean from the Coffea plant, native to tropical Africa and Madagascar.

In rat liver and primary hepatocytes, regular intake of coffee daily illustrated an enormous effect in cellular antioxidant defenses through regulating exhibited enzymes involved mRNA and protein expression.

The study also suggested that coffee and coffee caffeine through the expression of detoxifying enzymes GSTs and AKR(in cellular detoxification) also demonstrated significant activity in reduced risk of genotoxicity and cytotoxicity caused by injection of aflatoxin B1 (AFB1).

Dr. Cavin C, the lead author said, " the coffee-mediated stimulation of the Nrf2-ARE pathway resulting in increased endogenous defense mechanisms against electrophilic but also oxidative insults further support that coffee may be associated with protection against various types of chemical stresses".
(Please note that the Nrf2-ARE pathway is an indicator and modulator of oxidative stress)

Other, in the evaluated L5178Y mouse lymphoma cell line to assess the modulatory effects of coffee against genotoxicity induced by N-methyl-N-nitro-N-nitrosoguanidine (MNNG), researchers found that
* 3 doses of instant coffee caffeine injection displayed a decrease in genotoxicity following co-treatment of mouse lymphoma cells.

*. Coffee caffeine pre-treatment or co-treatment exhibited significant antigenotoxic effects against MNNG(an environmental carcinogen that causes DNA mutation) expression.

* Both caffeinated and decaffeinated instant coffee demonstrated a similar effect against genotoxicity in the experiment samples.

Dr. Abraham SK, the lead authors said, " Results from three or five independent experiments demonstrated significant protective effects of caffeinated instant coffee against MNNG-induced DNA damage in the comet assay, a mutation at the Tk locus and chromosomal damage in the cytokinesis-block micronucleus test".

The Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH), in the study of protective effects of coffee against somatic mutation and mitotic recombination induced by chemo drugs, cyclophosphamide (CPH)(, mitomycin C (MMC) and urethane (URE), using standard (ST) and high bioactivation (HB) crosses of the wing spot test in Drosophila melanogaster assays, suggested that in dose depending, coffee injection showed a strong effect in the genotoxicity of URE in the ST and the genetically susceptible HB cross as well as the genotoxicity caused by MMC application.

Dr. Abraham SK, the lead researcher said, "The magnitude of the protective effects of coffee against these three genotoxins was independent of the genotype of the larvae used for treatment, that is it was independent of the bioactivation capacity of these larvae".

The collective information showed definitive support in use of coffee and coffee caffeine as functional food in reduced risk against genotoxic expression, including side effects of chemo medicine used in the treatment of multi types of cancers.

Green Tea, A Natural Alternative For Treatment of Chronic Back Pain

Green tea may have a therapeutic and positive effect in ameliorated symptoms and treatment of chronic back pain, some scientists suggested.

Chronic back pain is a condition of back pain lasting more than 12 weeks.

It is also considered as musculoskeletal disorders(MSDs) of the spine caused by various factors, including bone fractures, muscle or ligament injury, arthritis, herniated discs. aging,..

The traditional medicine suggested acute back pain did not treat correctly during the time of onset may cause chronic back pain in the latter days.

According to NIH, "chronic back pain can range in intensity from a dull, constant ache to a sudden, sharp sensation that leaves the person incapacitated. Pain can begin abruptly as a result of an accident or by lifting something heavy, or it can develop over time due to age-related changes of the spine".

The exact causes of back pain are debatable. However, researchers suggested that chronic back pain may also be initiated by some psychological risk factors such as fatigue, sleep disturbance, decreased appetite, and mood changes.

Truly, patients with chronic back pain may experience symptoms of limit movements, reduced back flexibility, strength, and stamina. In a severe case, the pain can cause difficulty in carrying out important and enjoyable activities.

Green tea is a precious drink processes numbers of health benefit known to almost everyone in Asia and the Western world.

Application of biologically active polyphenol epigallocatechin 3-gallate (EGCG) demonstrated a significant effect in reduced back pain through stimulating anti-inflammatory and anti-catabolic activity in patients with intervertebral disc (IVD) disease due to age-related changes in the adult disc in the induction of back pain.

According to the study by the Institute for Biomechanics (D-HEST), ETH Zurich, ingestion of green tea EGCG on back pain patients, human IVD cells isolated from patients undergoing surgery due to degenerative disc disease (n = 34) and cultured in 2D or 3D indicated that the phytochemical inhibited levels of inflammatory response activated by IL-1β, a cytokine protein produced by macrophages, with function in contributed to the inflammatory pain and hypersensitivity in the site of infection, observed by the reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR), western blotting, enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), immunofluorescence and transcription factor assay.

Furthermore, the application also displayed a strong effect in reduced expression of p38 mitogen-activated protein kinases in mediated inflammatory factors of IL-1β in responded to stress stimuli.

Also, according to the Institute for Biomechanics (D-HEST), in the investigation of the analgesic properties of EGCG, by the von Frey filament test in Sprague-Dawley rats (n = 60), green tea EGCG injection also significantly inhibited the expression of pro-inflammatory mediators as expressed in above and reduced matrix metalloproteinases which have been found to associate to pro-inflammatory cytokines, chemokines and other proteins in regulation of varied aspects of inflammation and immunity.

Moreover, in the radiculopathic pain component, researchers indicated that EGCG inhibits the inflammation in precipitated back pain through modulation of the activity of IRAK-1 in glucose metabolism and insulin sensitivity in skeletal muscle and p38, c-Jun N-terminal kinases (JNK) and nuclear factor NF-κB in responding to stress stimuli in mediated production of pain related pro-inflammatory cytokines such as IL-1β.

Some researchers postulated that back pain may also be induced by muscle degeneration and impairment of nerve injury, leading to increased levels of reactive oxygen species in induced tissue apoptosis.

In crushing of the sciatic nerve induced back pain in the tested animal, application of green tea EGCG improved motor function in the toe spread and foot positioning and gain in the percentage motor deficit.

More importantly, EGCG expressed a significant effect in the recovery of sensory innervation in neuropathic pain-like syndrome and improvement of muscle tissues from injured limb with severe histopathological alterations at the end of week 3 post-surgery in treated animals.

According to the RT-PCR assay, EGCG treatment also normalizing the Bax/Bcl-2 ratio. The abnormal ratio of the Bax/Bcl-2 ratio has been found to associate in the induction of nerve cell apoptosis as well as inhibited levels of p53 with function in regulated the cell death cycle at days 3 and 7 post-surgery.

These results demonstrated the important effects of green tea EGCG in enhanced functional recovery, protected muscle fibers from cellular death, and improved morphological recovery in skeletal muscle after nerve injuries.

Taken together, green tea and its bioactive component epigallocatechin 3-gallate (EGCG) may be considered as functional food in reduced back pain caused by physical damage of the spine and injured nerve cells. Intake of green tea supplement should be taken exceptional care as some cases of liver acute toxicity have been reported in medical literature.

Herbal Bearberry Leaf Normalizes High Blood Pressure in Vitro, Scientists Find

Herbal Barberry may be considered as a functional food and natural alternative in the prevention and treatment of high blood pressure quickly with no adverse effects, some scientists suggested.
High blood pressure or hypertension is a medical condition characterized by abnormally high blood pressure.

Blood pressure is the force of blood pushing against the walls of the arteries as the heart pumps out blood.

The normal range of blood pressure is 120 over 80. The number in the top is systolic blood pressure, and the bottom is called the diastolic blood pressure.

Researchers do not know the exact causes of hypertension. However, researchers do know that certain preventable risk factors such as smoking, overweight or obese, physical inactivity,.... and excessive alcohol drinking are associated to increase risk hypertension.

Prolong period of raising the pressure of the hear can lead damage of the body in many ways.

Uncontrolled high blood pressure can lead to stroke heart disease by damaging and weakening your brain's blood vessels, a blood clot in the arteries.

An unhealthy diet high in salt, sugar, process products, genetic mutation, aging, family history,... and long-term stress also have a substantial impact on the onset of hypertension.

Dr. Kim EJ, the lead author in the study of the dietary effect in patients with borderline hypertension, suggested, " a short-term (12 weeks) lifestyle intervention had positive effects on blood pressure control and weight reduction in the subjects, but not on their blood levels of adipokines. It is interesting that the blood level of baseline leptin was negatively associated with the changes in blood pressure after this short-term intervention"(3).

The results showed that long-term dietary intervention should have a strong impact on keeping blood pressure in check.

Adipocytes found in the obese population may contribute to the high prevalence of hypertension.

Leptin, a chemical compound in the blood plays a critical role in regulation and arterial hypertension
Conventional blood pressure medications have undoubtedly prevented many deaths from heart disease in the past 30 years, but they can induce serious side effects, including common gastrointestinal discomfort and psychological symptoms,

Lifelong intake of hypertension medicine can cause erectile dysfunction.

If you take the medicine in a long-term, please make sure you discuss the side effects with your doctor.

Bearberries are 3 species in the genus Arctostaphylos, belongings to the family Ericaceae, native to northern North America, Asia, and Europe.

The herbs have been used in traditional medicine as diuretic agents and to treat urinary problems, including bladder infections, kidney infection, kidney stone,.... and pelvic pain.

The Chemicals Ingredients
It contains arbutin, ursolic acid, tannic acid, gallic acid, some essential oil and resin, hydroquinones tannins, phenolic glycosides,..... and flavonoids.

With the aim to find the possible hypotensive activity of aqueous extract of Vaccinium Arctostaphylos leaves, the Shiraz University of Medical Sciences conducted an experiment of rats with two-kidney, one-clip hypertension.

All Rat were subjected to a sham operation of the placement of Plexiglass clip on left renal arteries.

After four weeks of surgery, renal artery clipped rats were either injected intravenously with different doses of the extract at 10, 25, or 75 mg/kg or normal saline.

The mean blood pressure and heart rate were measured before and 20, 40 and 60 minutes after vehicle or drug administration, researchers found that

* Group given normal saline has a significantly higher mean blood pressure, heart, and right kidney weights, lower left kidney weight and significantly indifferent heart rate.

* Treatment group with the injection of the extract at 75 mg/kg exerts a reduction of the mean blood pressure at 20, 40 and 60 minutes after administration without changing the heart rate.

* However, groups treated with doses of but 10 or 25 mg/kg show an insignificant change of mean blood pressure compared to group administrated with the extract at 75 mg/kg.

These results suggested that bearberry leaf extract has potential in reduced blood pressure in a dose-depended manner.

Dr. Khalili A, the lead author at the final report, wrote, "... at a higher dose the extract did have hypotensive activity without changing the heart rate".

Truly, the Laboratoire de Pharmacognosie study of Arctostaphylos uva-ursi and hydroalcoholic extracts suggested that the test substances may process a pharmacological effect in reduced blood pressure through increasing urine flow and urinary sodium excretion in vitro.

Taking all together, herbal bearberry and its extract may be considered a functional food for treatment of high blood pressure.

However, further data collection on large example size and multi-centers studies performed with human consumption of the herbal leaf extract during the course of the disease will be necessary to complete the picture of bearberry hypotensive possibilities.

The Functional Herb Which Processes Anti Cancers Potency

Herbal Andrographis may be considered as the next generation of natural chemo medicine for treatment of cancer in any stages, some scientists found.

Cancer is a class of diseases characterized by cells growth and multiplied disorderly and uncontrollably. In advance stage, a cancerous cell from the originated site can travel a distance away to infect other healthy tissue via lymph or blood circulation.

Most cancers process a high survival rate if they are diagnosed early. According to the Mayo Clinic, over 56 percent of people diagnosed with early-stage lung cancer live for at least five years after diagnosis. However, the five-year survival rate for people diagnosed with late-stage of invasive lung cancer is 5 %.

According to the statistic of Canadian cancer provided by the government, in 2017, there were over 200,000 newly diagnosed cancer and 80,000 Canadian died from cancer. 1 in 2 Canadians will be diagnosed with cancer, and 1 in 4 will die from the disease, during their lifetime.

The exact cause of cancers is unknown. Researchers do not know why some people without gene mutation are susceptible to early onset of cancer while others do not

However, researchers do know that certain risk factors such as aging, tobacco, sun exposure, radiation exposure, chemicals, and other substances, some viruses and bacteria, certain hormones, family history of cancer, alcohol, poor diet, physical inactivity are associated to gene change in the initiation of cancer development.

Most cancers share the common symptoms of tiredness, unexplained weight loss, loss of appetite, fatigue. In advance stage, cancer patients may also experience additional common symptoms of dehydration, nausea and vomiting, constipation and persistent pain.

Andrographis parniculata is also known as Andrographis is a herbaceous plant, genus Andrographis, belongings to the family Acanthaceae, native to India and Sri Lanka.

The herb has been used in traditional Siddha and Ayurvedic to treat the common cold, flu, upper respiratory infections, infectious diseases, diarrhea, dysentery, cholera, pneumonia, swollen lymph nodes, leprosy, bronchitis, sore throats, tuberculosis,.... and chicken pox.

The Ingredients
Besides the main ingredient andrographolides, giving the plant a bitter taste, other ingredients of Andrographis parniculata include diterpene lactones, such as neoandrographolide, andrographiside, 14-doexy-11, 12-didehydro andrographolide, etc., flavonoinds viz., oroxylin, wogonin, andrographidines A, B, C, D, E, F.

With an aim to evaluate the effectiveness of Andro administered alone and combination with Cis against cancers, researchers at the University of Sydney, conducted an experiment, using ovarian A2780 and A2780(cisR) cancer cell lines.

Five different sequences of administration (Cis/Andro h): 0/0h, 4/0 h, 0/4 h, 24/0 h, and 0/24 h. are examined for their anti-proliferative and apoptotic effects in tested cancer cell lines.

At the end of the experiment, researchers reported that
* Anti-cancer activity in combined doses was lower in the resistant A2780(cisR) cell line than in the parent A2780 cell line compared to the treatment of Cis alone.

* Andro alone was found to be three times more active in the A2780(cisR) cell line as compared to that in the A2780 cell line.

* Cis and Andro administered using the sequences 0/4 h and 4/0 h produces a combined effect greater than the sum of their separate effects.

* The percentage of apoptotic cell death was found to be greater for the 0/4 h combination of Andro and Cis as compared to those values from single-drug treatments.

These results suggested although herbal Andrographis processes a strong anti-cancer activity, its efficacy is lesser than those of combined dose of the herb + Cis.

On pulmonary cancer, using lung tumor mouse model induced by human vascular endothelial growth factor

A 165 (hVEGF-A165), researchers found that

* Andrographolide significantly reduces the expression of hVEGF-A165 compared with a mock group in the Clara cells of the lungs.

* Andrographolide also decreased tumor formation by reducing vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) information of new blood vessel for cancer cells to grow, Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor (EGFR) in stimulation of cancer cells grow and division, Cyclin A, a protein in regulated cell division and Cyclin B, a protein which plays in integral role in cancer hyperplasia expression on the transcriptional and translational levels.

Dr. Tung YT, the lead author said, " Andrographolide treatment on the overexpression of VEGF can arrest the cell cycle, which induced pulmonary tumors in transgenic mice. In conclusion, the antiangiogenesis and chemotherapeutic potential of andrographolide may provide a cure for pulmonary tumors in the future".

Furthermore, Dr. Reddy's Laboratories in the classification of Andrographis anti Cancers effect showed that
* Andrographolide treatment inhibited the proliferation of different tumor cell lines, representing various types of cancers, in vitro

* Andrographolide exerts direct anticancer activity on cancer cells by cell-cycle arrest at G0/G1 phase through induction of cell-cycle inhibitory protein p27 in initiated cancer cell cycle division and decreased expression of cyclin-dependent kinase 4 (CDK4) in promoted cancer cell-cycle during G1/S transition.

* Andrographolide also enhanced the tumor necrosis factor-alpha production and CD marker expression, resulting in the increased cytotoxic activity of lymphocytes against cancer cells.

Dr. after taking into account co and confounders said, "These results suggest that andrographolide is an interesting pharmacophore with anticancer and immunomodulatory activities and hence has the potential for being developed as a cancer therapeutic agent".

The findings strongly suggested that Andrographis containing major bioactive compound Andrographolide, may be used alone or combined with other medications for the treatment of cancers.

However, further data collection on large example size and multi-centers studies performed with human consumption of the whole food during the course of the disease will be necessary to complete the picture of Andrographis anti-cancer possibilities.

Cruciferous Vegetables Promote Functions of Detox Enzymes Against Substances and Radiation That Cause Prostate Cancer

Cruciferous vegetables may be considered as next plants, processing pharmaceutical value in the extraction of single-ingredient chemo medicine of blocking the onset of prostate cancer, some scientists suggested

Prostate cancer is a condition characterized by irregular and uncontrollable growth of the cells of the prostate. In the advanced stage, the cancerous cells can spread to the distant parts of the body through blood and fluid circulation.

Most prostate cancers are slow growing and enlarged prostate and prostate cancer may be detected during the physical (rectum) exams.

According to a statistic provided by the Canadian government, 1 in 7 men will develop prostate cancer during their lifetime, and 1 in 27 will die of it.

Sadly, out of 4 men diagnosed with prostate cancer, 1 will die of it. which is very similar to the ratio observed for breast cancer in women.

A diagnosis of prostate cancer carries a significant burden of induction of significant anxiety and depression.

Researchers do not know the exact causes of prostate cancer and can not explain why some men who do process inherited gene mutation are susceptible to the onset of prostate cancer while others do not.

But they do know that some risk factors such as age, family history, race, and diet are associated with the development of prostate cancer.

Early diagnosed for prostate cancer patients have a 5-year survival rate of nearly 100% with 98% of these patients are still alive after 10 years compared to the 5-year survival rate of the advanced stage of 30%.

Therefore, if you are at the high risk of prostate cancer development group, please make sure that you have your prostate gland checked every year.

Cruciferous vegetables are the group of vegetables included cauliflower, cabbage, cress, bok choy,..... and broccoli.

Broccoli is a mustard/cabbage plant, belongings to the family Brassicaceae.

The healthy veggie has large flower heads, usually green in color and the mass of flower heads, surrounded by leaves and evolved from a wild cabbage plant on the continent of Europe.

Epidemiologically, chemical constituents of cruciferous vegetables, such as broccoli have shown to decrease the incidence of prostate cancer.

In the finding of broccoli effect in the genetic implication of risk of prostate cancer, researchers at the Institute of Food Research conducted a study which includes
volunteers with or without genetic mutation of glutathione S-transferase mu 1 (GSTM1) positive and null.

Glutathione S-transferase (GST) are detox enzymes with function involved detoxification of many potentially carcinogenic compounds.

Participants were randomly assigned to six months either a broccoli-rich or a pea-rich diet.

At the end of the study, researchers found that

* Pea-rich diet shows no differences in gene expression between glutathione S-transferase mu 1 (GSTM1) positive and null individuals

* Broccoli-rich diet group exerts significant differences between GSTM1 genotypes associated with transforming growth factor beta 1 (TGFbeta1) and epidermal growth factor (EGF) signaling pathways.

* Both diets demonstrate a significant androgen signaling.

* Men on the broccoli diet had additional changes to mRNA processing, and TGFbeta1, EGF and insulin signaling.

The growth factor beta (TGFbeta) signaling pathway is a key role in tumor suppression through modulating processes such as cell invasion, immune regulation, and microenvironment modification normally. However, the transforming growth factor beta (TGFteta) signaling pathway can cause tumor development with similar physio activity.

In healthy and malignant cells, epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) allows cells to grow and divide

These results suggested that broccoli interacts processed a strong anti-prostate cancer effect in patients with GSTM1 genotype associated with inflammation and carcinogenesis in the prostate gland.

Dr. Traka M, the lead author after taking into account other factors, said, "diets rich in cruciferous vegetables may reduce the risk of prostate cancer and another chronic disease".

Furthermore, in a population-based, case-control study of prostate cancer, including 428 men with incident prostate cancer and 537 community controls with genotyping for deletions in GSTM1 and GSTT1 performed in a subset of men who provided blood, researchers found that

* Intake of cruciferous vegetables, such as broccoli, the greatest source of sulforaphane, is associated with decreased prostate cancer risk at all levels compared to the lowest consumers.

* Intake of cruciferous vegetables also displays a significantly reduced risk of prostate cancer in men with mutation of gene GSTM1. Particularly in high broccoli intake group.

The finding suggested that 2 or more servings per month of cruciferous vegetables may reduce risk of prostate cancer, especially among men with GSTM1-present alleles.

At the final of the experimental report, Dr. Joseph MA, the lead scientist, wrote, "(These results) are consistent with a role of dietary ITCs as chemopreventive agents against prostate cancer.

The depletion of the gene of GSTM1 genotype of Glutathione S-transferase (GST) enzymes may be associated with an increased risk of cancer as this depletion reduced the function of GST in detoxifying most potentially carcinogenic compounds.

Taken altogether, cruciferous vegetables may be considered as functional food in the promoted expression of detoxified enzymes to prevent the onset of prostate cancer, especially in men with genetic mutation gene GSTM1.

Bean Fibers, The Best and Easy Way to Prevent Abnormal Levels of Blood Glucose, Scientists Say

Epidemiological studies suggested that bean fiber may be used as therapeutically functional food in reduced risk of hyperglycemia.

Hyperglycemia is a condition characterized by abnormally high blood sugar in the bloodstream. According to glucose test, anyone who have fasting levels over 7.0 mmol/L (126 mg/dL) and 2-hours postprandial (after a meal) levels greater than 11.0 mmol/L (200 mg/dL) are hyperglycemic.

According to the University of Wisconsin-Madison, dietary fiber intake daily and regularly not only lowers blood cholesterol levels but also normalizes blood glucose and insulin levels, thus reducing risk and treatment of cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes.

Unfortunately, recommended intakes, 20-35 g/day for healthy adults and age plus 5 g/day for children, are not being met, according to the statistic.
.
In the concern of high-fat Western diet in risk of hyperglycemia, Dr. Mbikay M, the lead author in the study of "Variable effects of gender and Western diet on lipid and glucose homeostasis in aged PCSK9-deficient C57BL/6 mice CSK9PC57BL/6" wrote,
* On Female tested subjects, Western diet showed comparable plasma TC and HDL-C, but lower LDL-C, higher plasma glucose, and normal glucose disposal despite impaired GSIS compared to normal diet.

* On Male, both normal and Western diets, showed lower plasma TC, HDL-C, and LDL-C, similarly elevated plasma glucose, glucose intolerance, and impaired GSIS.

These results suggested normal diet have a strong effect in reduced risk of hyperglycemia in female compared to Western diet and both diets are considered to have a significantly positive effect in increased risk of hyperglycemia.

In a randomized, single-blind, crossover design study (food intake: n=22; glycemia: n=10) with 5 liquid meals distributing similar amounts of macronutrients (C - control shake, OB - oat bran shake, F - flaxseed shake, WB - white bean extract shake, and UB - unripe banana flour shake) consumed in five non-consecutive days, researchers after examining the returned questionnaire from participants after 15, 30, 45, 60, 90 and 120 minutes ingestion of each shake, suggested that
* In compared to control, intake of white bean extract shake showed a significantly increased fiber component.

* Bean extract exhibited a strong glycemic control through the expression of incremental areas under the curves (iAUC).

Additionally, in the study of children completed a trial of 4 different breakfasts, participated children were given in random order, with 3 diets differed in fiber content and the fourth diet contained soya beans as part (38%) of the dietary fiber source,

Then, children in all groups were asked to exercise vigorously for an hour each morning and to rest for an hour. Blood samples drawn from children reveal the following results.
* There were no difference of blood glucose levels on the high-fiber diet is compared to those on the medium-fiber diet.

* Children fed with bean diet scored a significantly lowest mean blood glucose level, and

*The effect of glycemic control of blood glucose of bean diet was last into the hour before lunch.

Even with the better control of blood glucose, the bean diet was found to be unacceptable diet among children, in compared to the liked of the high- and medium-fiber diets, which were as popular as the low-fiber diet.

Taking all together, there is no doubt that bean fibers may have a positive effect in attenuated risk of abnormally high blood glucose, a major risk factors in the risk of type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease.

The Functional Herb Blocks Insulin Resistance Against Onset of Type II Diabetes

Herbal Aloe Vera may have a potential effect in lowering insulin resistance, the main cause of type II diabetes, some scientists suggested

Diabetes is a chronic condition caused by insufficient insulin entering the bloodstream to regulate the glucose.

In other words, diabetes is either caused by cells in pancreas dying off or receptor sites clogged up by fat and cholesterol.

In some cases, diabetes is also caused by allergic reactions of cells in the immune system.

According to the statistic provided by the International Diabetes Federation, 425 million people have diabetes in the world and 159 million people in the western Pacific Region.

Sadly, according to the prediction, by 2045 people infected by diabetes will rise to 183 million.

There were over 3.492.600 cases of diabetes in Malaysia in 2017.

Type 1 diabetes is a condition caused by the immune system mistakenly attacks and destroys the insulin-producing beta cells of the pancreas.

The actual causes of type 2 diabetes are unknown. However, researchers do know that genetic mutation and unhealthy diet and lifestyle are major risk factors of insulin resistance, the most common cause of type 2 diabetes.

Lisa M. Leontis RN, ANP-C and Amy Hess-Fischl in the article explaining Type 2 Diabetes Causes -
Genetics and Lifestyle Choices Play a Role wrote, " Two people have the same genetic mutation. One of them eats well, watches their cholesterol, and stays physically fit, and the other is overweight (BMI greater than 25) and inactive. The person who is overweight and inactive is much more likely to develop type 2 diabetes because certain lifestyle choices greatly influence how well your body uses insulin".

These results suggested that by keeping your body fit and active accompanied with a healthy diet, one can totally prevent the onset of insulin resistance, the main cause of type 2 diabetes, regardless of other risk factors.

Aloe Vera is species of succulent plant in the genus Aloe, belongings to the Family Xanthorrhoeaceae, native to Sudan cultivated around the world in suitable climate region for commercial profits due to its health benefits.

Aloe vera has been used in herbal medicine in treating many kinds of disease, including wound, burn healing, minor skin infections, sebaceous cysts, diabetes, and elevated of cholesterol, etc. It is also one of many popular herbs studied in scientific ways with some conflicting results

The Ingredients The ten main areas of chemical constituents of Aloe vera include amino acids, anthraquinones, enzymes, minerals, vitamins, lignins, monosaccharide, polysaccharides, salicylic acid, saponins, and sterols.

In the study of PCOS induced in Charles Foster female rats by oral administration of non-steroidal aromatase inhibitor letrozole (0.5 mg/kg body weight, 21 days), before administration of herbal Aloe vera, researchers found that all rats exhibits hyperglycemic and 90% of them also showed elevated plasma triglycerides, elevated LDL cholesterol levels, and lowered plasma HDL cholesterol levels indicative of a dyslipidemic profile.

After injection of An AVG formulation (1 ml (10 mg)/day, 30 days) orally, in selected rats with PCOS positive rats with an aberrant lipid profile, researchers showed that* AVG treated PCOS rats exhibited significant reduction in plasma triglyceride and LDL cholesterol levels, with an increase in HDL cholesterol.

* The gel treatment also caused reversion of abnormal estrous cyclicity, glucose intolerance, and lipid metabolizing enzyme activities, bringing them to normal.

These results suggested that AVG processes phyto components with anti-hyperlipidemic effects and it has shown efficacy in the management of not only PCOS but also the associated metabolic complication of dyslipidemia.

Further to confirm Aloe vera anti-insulin resistance effect induction of type 2 diabetes, researchers at the University of Exeter conducted a review of literature from the database in MEDLINE, EMBASE, Biosis, and the Cochrane Library.

10 selected studies suggest that oral administration of aloe vera might be a useful adjunct for lowering blood glucose in diabetic patients as well as for reducing blood lipid levels in patients with hyperlipidemia.

Topical application of aloe vera was not an effective substance in preventative for radiation-induced injuries. However, the application might be effective for genital herpes and psoriasis.

Moreover, in the animal model to examine the effects of processed Aloe vera gel (PAG) on the course of established diet-induced non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM) in C57BL/6J mice fed with high-fat diet.

Before injection of Aloe vera gel (PAG), mice exhibited diet-induced obesity (DIO) with blood glucose levels above 180mg/dl, after administrating PAG for 8 weeks, researchers showed that

* Aloe vera gel (PAG) exerts a strong effect in reduced circulating blood glucose concentrations to a normal level in these DIO mice.

* The administration of PAG significantly decreased plasma insulin.

Additionally, PAG antidiabetic effects were confirmed by intraperitoneal glucose tolerance testing. PAG injection also appeared to lower blood glucose levels by decreasing insulin resistance.

Dr. Kim K, the lead author at the final report, wrote, "the oral administration of PAG prevents the progression of NIDDM-related symptoms in high-fat-diet-fed mice, and suggest that PAG could be useful for treating NIDDM".

Taken together, herbal aloe vera gel may be considered as a functional food in decreased insulin resistance and prevent the onset of type 2 diabetes.

Carrots May Stop Colon Cancer Cells From Spreading, Scientists Say

Carrots may have a profound and substantial effect on blocking colon cancer cells from spreading, some scientists suggested.

Colon cancer, the third most common type of cancer in the United States, is a condition characterized by cell growth disorderly and uncontrollably in colon tissue. At the later stage, the cancerous cells may infect other healthy tissue and organs a distance away from the original site.

According to statistics provided by the American cancer society, in the US, 135,430 new cases colon cancers were diagnosed and 50,260 patient died from colon and rectal cancers in 2017.

Sadly. 1 in 22 men and 1 in 24 women will be diagnosed with colorectal cancer in their lifetime.

The exact causes of colon cancer are unknown, some researchers suggested that increasing age, African-American race, high fat intake, a family history of colorectal cancer, patients with polyps in the large intestine, and inflammatory bowel diseases, and chronic ulcerative colitis are associated to increase the risk of the disease onset.

Besides the symptoms of common cancer, patients with colon cancer may also experience, a change in bowel habits, that lasts longer than 3 weeks, persistent rectal bleeding or blood in your stool,... and abdominal discomforts, such as cramps, gas or pain.

Dr. O'Neill AM, the lead scientist in concern of Western diet in risk of colon cancer, wrote in his vitro, "Human colon cancer growth is accelerated in animals that are obese and insulin resistant due to the consumption of an high-fat Western diet (HFWD)"(4).

Carrot, a root vegetable with an orange color is a sub species of Daucus carota, belongings to the family Apiaceae, native to Asian and Europe.

In an aim to evaluate the effect of carrot intake and risk of colon cancer, researchers at the Technical University of Munich conducted a randomized cross-over trial of twenty-two healthy young men on a low-carotenoid diet consumed 330 ml tomato or carrotjuice per day for 2 weeks with intervention periods preceded by 2-week depletion phases.

At the end of the experiment, researchers found that increased marks of beta-carotene and alpha-carotene were found in the collected feces.

Further analysis of fecal water, researchers indicated that intake of tomato and carrot juice demonstrates a huge activity the in induction of cytotoxic and anti-proliferative effects on colon adenocarcinoma cells (HT29) in high dose-dependent manner without alternating the bile acid concentrations, activities of the bacterial enzymes beta-glucosidase and beta-glucuronidase.
Moreover, intake of tomato and carrot juice also decreased fecal water pH, another indication of anti colon activity that was attributed to short chain fatty acids (SCFAs) concentration with function in regulated cecal and colonic metabolism and modulated histone acetylation in human HT29 colon cancer cells.

After taking into account of other con founders, Dr. Schnäbele K, the lead author said, "2-week interventions with carotenoid-rich juices led only to minor changes in investigated luminal biomarkers relevant to colon carcinogenesis".

Additionally, in the reaffirmation of wild carrot used in folk medicine throughout the world for anticancer and antioxidant activities, researchers at the joint study lead by the University of Surrey conducted an experiment to evaluate the effect of pentane fraction (F1) and the 1:1 pentane:diethyl ether fraction (F2) of the Daucus Carota oil extract (DCOE) in human colon adenocarcinoma cell lines (HT-29 and Caco-2).

The results of the study suggested that application of the extract F1 and F2 exerts a profound effect in inhibition of colon cell proliferation in a dose-dependent manner.

According to the Flow cytometric analysis, both fractions ameliorated colon cells expression through significantly induced sub-G1 phase accumulation and increased apoptotic cell death.
In the Western blot assay, researchers found that application of F1 and F2 also reduces cancer cell proliferation through activation of caspase-3 which is considered as a 'death-switch' in colorectal cancer cells.
Administration of F1 and F2 also increased expression of Bax in penetration of the cancer mitochondrial outer membrane to mediate cell death by apoptosis. and p53 with function in exhibited cancer cell growth arrest and inhibited cancer cells proliferation.

The fractions also decreased levels of Bcl-2 in inhibited PARP cleavage activity in the facilitation of colon cancer cell apoptosis.

This implication suggested that F1 or F2 inhibited colon cancer cells through ameliorated expression of phosphatidyl inositol 3-kinase (PI3K) pathway which has the function to act as a key mediator of cell metabolism and cell growth at different levels.
More importantly, injection of DCOE fractions (F1 and F2) also attenuated cell proliferation by inducing cell cycle arrest and apoptosis in HT-29 cells.

The findings strongly suggested that carrot can be considered as a function food in the prevention and treatment of colon cancer. But Intake of carrot supplement should be taken with care to prevent acute liver toxicity.

Green Tea Mixture (NM) Which Kills 100% of Hemangioendotheliomas Cells, Biomedical Literature Suggest

Green tea may have a therapeutic and positive effect in reduced development of hemangiomas, some scientists suggested.

The results were carried out by some respectable institutes including the Dr. Rath Research Institute and published on online medical literature.

Hemangioma is a benign tumor formed by a collection of excess blood vessels. The disease is a birthmark usually growth during the first year of life and recedes over time.

Hemangioendotheliomas are a chronic condition caused by abnormal growth of blood vessel cells, with no exact underlying cause. The disease is a rare vascular tumor, described for the first time in 1975 by Dail and Liebow as an aggressive bronchoalveolar cell carcinoma.
The disease most commonly affects the soft tissues, liver, lungs, and bones.

Localized epithelioid hemangioendothelioma can be removed surgically.

Patients with hemangioendothelioma may induce symptoms weight loss. localized pain and swelling in the tumor area, red or blue skin nodules,..... and infectious organs enlargement.

If you experience some of the above symptoms, please check with your doctor right the way to rule the possibility.

Green tea is a precious drink processed numbers of health benefit known to almost everyone in Asia and the Western world.

In differentiation of the efficacy of a nutrient mixture (NM) containing lysine, proline, ascorbic acid and green tea extract against the development of hemangiomas researchers at the Dr. Rath Research Institute, conducted an experiment using the mouse in hemangioendothelioma model injected by Matrigel.

NM had shown a significant effect in inhibited hemangioendothelioma cell proliferation and cell division, in vitro through evaluating cell viability, MMP secretion, invasion, morphology, and apoptosis.

Athymic nude mice, 5-6 weeks old, inoculated with 3 x10(6) EOMA cells subcutaneously and randomly divided into two groups,
* Group A was fed with a regular diet and
* Group B was fed with a regular diet supplemented with 0.5% NM.

At the end of the experiment, researchers found that mice fed with NM inhibit 50% of tumors growth.

Further analysis suggested that the efficacy of NM in inhibited the growth of tumor was attributed to its cytotoxicity linearly in induced apoptosis of EOMA cells, in dose-dependent manner.

Injection of Matrigel in the induction of tumor was inhibited by green tea mixture at 50, 100 and 500 microg/ml by 25%, 30%, and 100% respectively

Dr. Roomi MW, the lead author, after taking into account of other co and confounders said, " NM may have therapeutic potential in treating infantile hemangioendotheliomas and, perhaps, other cutaneous vascular tumors".

Taken together, green tea mixture NM may have a profound effect in reduced risk and treatment of hemangioendotheliomas.

However, further data collection on large example size and multi-centers studies performed with human consumption of green tea and its bioactive phytochemicals, during the course of the condition will be necessary to complete the picture of their anti hemangioendothelioma possibilities.

How to Protect Your Inner Eye Pressure Against Early Onset of Glaucoma

Intake of fennel may have a potential and positive effect in reduced ocular hypertension, the early onset of glaucoma, some scientists suggested.

The results of this investigation were conducted by numbers of respectable research centers, including Delhi Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences & Research and published on online medical literature.

Ocular hypertension is a condition characterized by elevated fluid pressure inside the eye (intraocular pressure), in most case, without inducing optic nerve damage or visual field loss.

Normal eye pressure is in ranges between 10-21 mm Hg. Eye pressure over 21mm Hg is considered as ocular hypertension.

People with ocular hypertension do not develop a peripheral vision and ocular disease. However, the condition may consider as a risk factor in the early onset of glaucoma.

Medication such as bisphosphonate, cyclosporine, tacrolimus,.... and minocycline used for treatment for osteoporosis, erectile dysfunction, and prostate conditions may increase pressure in the ocular.

The Glaucoma Research Foundation, patients with ocular hypertension may not experience any symptoms that affect the inner eye structure or vision abnormality, however untreated ocular hypertension may facilitate glaucoma, a multi-factorial, complex eye disease with specific characteristics such as optic nerve damage and visual field loss.

According to statistic, approximately, 3-6 million people in the United States have intraocular pressures of 21 mm Hg or higher, affecting 4%-10% of the population older than 40 years with no signs of glaucomatous damage.

Fennel (Foeniculum vulgare) is a plant species of the genus, belongings to Apiaceae (Umbelliferae), native to the Mediterranean.

The herb or foot has been used in traditional and herbal medicine as warming, carminative, antispasmodic, antidepressant agent and to stimulate the appetite, ease indigestion, soothe coughing, reduce intestinal spasms, to regulate the menstrual cycle and relieve PMS,...

In the evaluation of the effect of aqueous extract isolated from Foeniculum vulgare in experimental models of glaucoma, researchers at the Delhi Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences & Research found that application of aqueous seed extract of Foeniculum vulgare exerted significant activities in reduced the intraocular pressure of tested model by 17.49, 21.16 and 22.03%.

In normotensive rabbits, application of the same doses induced an insignificant change of fluid pressure.

These result suggested that aqueous extract isolated from Foeniculum vulgare demonstrated an oculohypotensive activity only on infectious subjects without causing harm to normal eye pressure.
Aqueous extract of Foeniculum vulgare possesses significant oculohypotensive activity similar to those of timolol, a conventional medicine used as an eye drop to treat increased pressure inside the eye such as in ocular hypertension and glaucoma.

Further analysis, researchers also suggested that at a dose of 0.6%, the extract may have potential to treat acute and chronic models of glaucoma.

After taking into account co and confounders, Dr. Agarwal R, the lead scientist also found, "A maximum mean difference of 31.20% was observed between vehicle-treated and extract treated eyes in water loading model while a maximum mean IOP lowering of 31.29% was observed in a steroid-induced model of glaucoma".

Although aqueous extract isolated from Foeniculum vulgare demonstrated a strong efficacy against the oculohypotensive activity, scientists participated in the study were still worry about the existence of possible toxicity.

The study reconfirmed the use of Fennel seeds to benefit vision in traditional herbal medicine and the Romans viewed the fennel plant as the herb of eyesight.

However, due to the limitation of information findings, patients with hyper intraocular pressure should consult with related field specialists before applying fennel extract.

Moreover, intake of fennel extract should be taken extreme care, as overdoses may induce to prevent liver toxicity and damage to eyesight

Andrographis paniculata, The Herbal Remedy Which Protects Neurons Integrity Against Onset of Alzheimer's disease

Herbal Andrographolide may process a substantial and profound effect in protected neurons integrity against the onset of Alzheimer's disease, a common type of dementia, a study suggested.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a chronic neurodegenerative disease that is irreversible and starts slowly and worsens over time, affecting patients thinking ability and memory, correlated with major reductions of neurons to the respective target areas. The disease is named after German physician Alois Alzheimer.

Some researchers suggested that the disease is caused by a prolonged period of plaques excessive accumulation in the brain cells, leading to brain cells degeneration and death.

People with Alzheimer's disease may experience the decline of cognitive and functional abilities, change of motions and moods and behavior, particularly, in reducing the quality of life due to disability in physical activity.

According to the statistic provided by the Alzheimer.Net, approximately, 44 million people have Alzheimer’s or related dementia worldwide. The disease is most common in North America and Western Europe.

Alzheimer’s disease is the 6th leading cause of death in the United States.

In the US, Alzheimer’s cost the United States taxpayer $259 billion in 2017.

Andrographis paniculata is also known as Andrographis is a herbaceous plant, genus Andrographis, belonging to the family Acanthaceae, native to India and Sri Lanka.

The herb has been used in traditional Siddha and Ayurvedic in treating the common cold, flu, upper respiratory infections, infectious diseases, diarrhea, dysentery, cholera, pneumonia,...

According to the joint study lead by the Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Chile, oral administrated natural product (Andrographolide, ANDRO) isolated from Andrographis paniculata in species Octodon degus (degu) exhibited the recovery of spatial memory and learning performance, through regulated phosphorylated tau protein and amyloid beta aggregate maturation in cell survival in inducing Alzheimer's disease.

Dr., the lead author in the joint study said, "(Andrographolide, ANDRO) inhibited) neural damage associated with aging processes and the behavioral and neuropathological hallmarks of aging-related diseases such as AD"

Additionally, Andrographolide also displayed the inhibitory activity against forming of amyloid beta (Aβ)42 through suppression of NF-κB, a protein that regulates cell survival and function of microglia in activated response to brain damage and immunological stimuli together with the reduction in the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines.

In animal study, mice treated with Andrographolide increased neural progenitor cell proliferation and decreased the number of immature neurons in the hippocampus, compared to age-matched control mice.

Moreover, ANDRO increased the number of newborn dentate granule neurons in various parts of the brain.

The study also found that the efficacy that reduces symptoms and protects against the early onset of AD is the results of the stimulation of neurogenesis in the hippocampus.

Taking together, Andrographis paniculata is surely consisted as a therapeutic potential to protect the development of Alzheimer's disease through various mechanisms, however, intake of large amount daily should be taken with care.

However, additional data collection on large example size and multi-centers studies performed with human consumption of the whole food during the course of the disease will be necessary to complete the picture of Andrographis paniculata anti-Alzheimer's disease possibilities.

White Button Mushroom, The Potential Ovarian Cancer Preventive Functional Food

White button mushroom may be next generation target of pharmaceutical extraction of single-ingredient medicine for treatment of ovarian cancer, some scientists suggested.

Ovarian cancer is a chronic and medical condition characterized cell growth regularly and disorderly in the ovary. Normally, the alternated DNA healthy cancer cells start on the surface of the ovary. In the advanced stage, the cancerous cell can travel a distance away from the originated site to infect other healthy tissue and organs.

Depending on where the healthy cells were infected, ovarian cancer can be classified as
* Epithelial ovarian tumor also known as a surface epithelial-stromal tumor, as the name, it is a result of the cells on the surface of the ovary have become cancerous. The epithelial ovarian tumor is the most common form of ovarian cancer accounted for over 90% of ovarian cancer of all cases, including serious tumor, endometrioid tumor, and mucinous cystadenocarcinoma.

* Germ cell ovarian tumor is a censer of the egg-producing cells within the ovary and can be cancerous or non-cancerous tumors. It tends to occur in children and teens as a result of birth defects resulting from errors during development of the embryo.

* Sex cord-stromal ovarian tumor is a cancer of the tissue of the ovary accounted for 8% of ovarian cancers. The excess estrogen produced by sex cord-stromal ovarian tumor can lead to certain symptoms, such as adult granulosa cell tumors and thecomas, postmenopausal bleeding, menorrhagia, amenorrhea,.... and, endometrial hyperplasia. Cancer tends to develop in older age group.

According to the statistic produced by the American Cancer Society, ovarian cancer is the fifth leading cancer which causes deaths among women. The cancer is found to account for more deaths than any other female reproductive cancer.

The average risk of a woman of getting ovarian cancer during her lifetime is about 1 in 78.

Ovarian cancer in early stage does not cause any symptoms, however, if you experience frequent and persistent symptoms of stomach and digestive issues, please check with your doctor to rule out the possibility. Ovarian cancer detected early is associated to significantly increased survival rate.

Mushroom is a standard name of white button mushroom, the fleshy, spore-bearing fruiting body of a fungus produced above ground on soil or on its food source, belongings to the family Amanitaceae

It has been cultivated in many cultures all over the world for foods and health benefits.

Chemical constituents
Astraodorol, Psilocybin, Lectin, adustin, ribonuclease, nicotine, 2-hydroxy-4-methoxy-6-methylbenzoic acid, orsellinic acid, melleolide, ergosterol, genistein, daidzein, daucosterol, genistin, uracil and D-mannitol(a).

In a hospital-based case-control study undertaken in Guangzhou, Guangdong Province, from 2006 to 2008. including 500 patients diagnosed with epithelial ovarian cancer and 500 controls, with a mean (SD) age of 59 (6) years, after examining the returned questionnaire reported by participants researchers found that

* Patients with ovarian cancer consumed less mushrooms (mean [SD], 28.48 [37.45] g/d) in compared to controls (mean [SD], 30.75 [41.85] g/d).

* high levels intake of the common white button mushroom are associated with reduced risk of ovarian cancer by 68%.

* Risk of ovarian cancer is reduced substantially for women who consume more than 2 g per day in compared to those who consume less.

* High levels of mushroom intake also decrease the risk of others serious and mucinous subtypes of epithelial ovarian tumors.

These results provide strong evidence to suggest that intake of mushrooms, particularly white button mushroom in an amount higher to 2 g per day, is inversely associated with the incidence of epithelial ovarian cancer in southern Chinese women.

Dr. Xu T in the differentiation of prevention and treatment of various type of mushroom cancer said, ".... the potential cancer preventive effects of edible mushrooms have been less well-studied. With similar content of putative effective anticancer compounds such as polysaccharides, proteoglycans, steroids, etc., one might predict that edible mushrooms would also demonstrate anticancer and cancer preventive activity".

However, some researchers in concerns of mushroom collected from wild, that their co-occurrence with some hazardous elements including Cd, Pb, Hg, Ag, As, and radionuclides may cause more harm than good.

The findings indicated that white button mushroom may be used as a functional food for the prevention and treatment of ovarian cancer. Please make sure that you know what you are doing if you try to pick and consume wild mushroom.
