Sulforaphane-Rich Broccoli Sprout Extracts Protects the Brain Cells Against Cognitive Deficits

Cognition is the process of the brain functioning associated with the attention of working memory, producing and comprehending language, learning, reasoning, problem-solving, and decision making.

Cognitive deficit is a medical condition, that affects a person's thinking, communication, understanding or memory. The cognitive deficit can be acute or chronic.

Acute cognitive deficit is a short-term health problem caused by drug toxicity and withdrawal, electrolyte disturbance, lack of drugs, liver disease, infection, reduced sensor input, intracranial urinary retention/fecal impaction or myocardial/metabolic/pulmonary. An acute cognitive deficit may be recovered if the cause is found.

Chronic cognitive deficit is a permanent medical condition caused by the gradual or permanent loss of the neurons, leading to problems of language, ideomotor and constructive praxis, visual gnosis, spatial attention, learning abilities, and executive functions.

There is no single cause of the chronic cognitive deficit. An increase in age, genetic preposition, certain medical conditions, such as diabetes, high blood cholesterol, and pressure, being obese and lack of exercise are some prevalent factors found in patients with chronic cognitive deficits.

Some researchers suggested that depending on the locations of the brain that were affected, patients may be at risk of Alzheimer's disease such as brain change caused by the abnormal clumps of beta-amyloid protein (plaques).

Small strokes or reduced blood flow through the brain can also cause a chronic cognitive deficit.

According to the observation of the patient MRI, patients brain with cognitive impairment also showed shrinkage of the hippocampus, a brain region important for memory, enlargement of the brain's fluid-filled spaces (ventricles) and reduced use of glucose, the sugar that's the primary source of energy for cells.

Out of many risk factors associated with the onset of the condition, obesity is also one of the major risk factors of cognitive impairment in the Western world.

Dr. Jason C. D. Nguyen, the lead author on the neurological team wrote in the final report, "The incidence of obesity in middle age is increasing markedly, and in parallel, the prevalence of metabolic disorders including cardiovascular disease and type II diabetes is also rising. Numerous studies have demonstrated that both obesity and metabolic disorders are associated with poorer cognitive performance, cognitive decline, and dementia".

Brussels sprout is a species of wild cabbage (Brassica oleracea), belong to the family of Brassicaceae and was cultivated since ancient Rome.

With an aim to find a potential compound for the treament of cognitive impairment, researchers examined the effects of dietary intake of sulforaphane-rich broccoli sprout extracts against parameters associated with the risk of cognitive dysfunction in patients with schizophrenia.

According to the results of the experiment, sulforaphane (SFN) derived from broccoli showed a strong effect in the activation of the transcription factor Nrf2 regulated by Keap1, a cytoplasmic protein which plays a central role against the stimulation of oxidative stress.

Moreover, pretreatment with SFN attenuated cognitive deficit, the increase in 8-oxo-dG-positive cells, and the decrease in PV-positive cells in the medial prefrontal cortex and hippocampus found in patients with a neurodegenerative disease caused by oxidative stress induced by administration of phencyclidine (PCP).

In other words, PCP-induced cognitive deficits were inhibited by the subsequent subchronic administration of SFN.

Believe it or not, chronic dietary intake of glucoraphanin (a glucosinolate precursor of SFN) during the juvenile and adolescence not only prevented the onset of PCP-induced cognitive deficit but also increased in 8-oxo-dG-positive cells and the decreased in PV-positive cells in the brain at adulthood.

The results strongly suggested the NRF2 gene and the KEAP1 gene had an epistatic effect in gene reaction on cognitive impairment (e.g., working memory and processing speed) in patients with schizophrenia.

Based on the findings, researchers said, "SFN may have prophylactic and therapeutic effects on cognitive impairment in schizophrenia. Therefore, the dietary intake of SFN-rich broccoli sprouts during the juvenile and adolescence may prevent the onset of psychosis at adulthood".

Taken altogether, broccoli sprout processed abundantly SFN may be considered a functional food for the promotion of cognitive deficit, pending to the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.

Herbal Ashwagandha Reduces the Risk of Skin Cancer

Skin, a large organ in the human not only acts as a barrier to protect the internal organs against the invasion of the foreign pathogen, but also protects the body against mechanical impacts and pressure, variations in temperature, radiation, and chemicals.

Skin cancer is a medical condition associated with irregular cell growth in the skin tissues.

Most cases of skin cancer start in the cells on the surface of the outermost inner lining tissue before penetrating into deeper layers.

After growing in size at the advanced stage, by penetrating into deeper layers of the infected tissue, the cells of the tumor may travel a distance away to infect other healthy tissue and organs through blood and fluids circulation, leading to secondary metastasis of secondary breast, lung, and colon tumor.

Believe it or not, more people are diagnosed with skin cancer each year in the U.S. than all other cancers combined. As of today, there are 58 million American are living with skin cancer.

Approximately, 1 in 5 Americans will develop skin cancer by the age of 70. The 5-year survival of among all people with melanoma of the skin is 92% compared to 100% of the localized skin cancer.

If you have experienced some of the symptoms such as a sore that doesn't heal or comes back after healing, a pale white or yellow flat areas that look like scars, raised and scaly red patches, small, smooth and shiny lumps that are pearly white, pink or red, a pink growth with raised edges and indents in the center and a growth that has small blood vessels on the surface of the skin, you may be on the early stage of skin cancer, please check with your doctor immediately.

Dr. Epstein JH. wrote, "Nonmelanoma skin cancers, like most malignancies, increase in incidence with increasing age. However, in general, they are not due to the aging process but are primarily due to solar radiation".

And, "genetic disease xeroderma pigmentosum support the concept that such damage, if not repaired, will lead to cancer formation. It also has been suggested that unrepaired damage to deoxyribonucleic (DNA) and other macromolecules is at least in part responsible for the aging process in general".
On finding a potent compound for the treatment of cancer, researchers examined the Withania somnifera (Ashwagandha) chemopreventive potential in a chemically-induced skin carcinogenesis mouse model.
According to the tested analysis, WA significantly suppressed skin tumor formation by suppressing cell proliferation.

Furthermore, carcinogen-induced the increase of acetyl-CoA carboxylase 1 (ACC1) associated with cancer metastasis was also blocked by application of WA.

Additionally, in melanoma cells, WA also suppressed the expression levels of ACC1.

Based on the findings, researchers said, "withaferin A may have potential in chemoprevention and ACC1 may serve as a critical target of WA".

Taken altogether, Ashwagandha may be considered a functional herb for the prevention and an adjunct therapy combined with the primary medicine for the treatment of skin cancer in breast cancer patients, pending to the result of larger sample size and multicenter study

Turmeric Protects the Heart Muscles Against Cardiotoxicity in Vivo

Cardiac toxicity is a condition in which the heart has been damage to some extent caused by harmful chemicals, including toxins induced by the treatment of chemotherapy.

Cardiac toxicity reduced heart muscle function to pump blood and is a leading cause of heart failure.

Long term intake of certain medication and people who are under treatment of chemotherapy have been found in most cases of cardiotoxicity.

Dr. Danúbia Silva dos Santo and colleagues in the examination of doxorubicin (DOX) in the risk of cardiotoxicity wrote, "Doxorubicin (DOX) is among the most effective anticancer agents ever developed. DOX has been used mainly for the treatment of breast cancer, solid tumors in children, soft tissue sarcomas, and aggressive lymphomas".

However, researchers continued, "the use of DOX may have dose-dependent cardiotoxic effects that generate changes in myocardial structure, which can develop into severe and irreversible cardiomyopathy".

Additionally, human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection, genetic preposition, a malignant disease associated with the amyloid deposited on the heart or other organs, high blood pressure, untreated hyperthyroidism, and vitamin b2 deficiency are some of the most prevalent factors found in patients with cardiotoxicity.

Depending on the cells of the areas of the heart that have been damaged, cardiac toxicity includes cardiomyopathy, myocarditis, pericarditis, acute coronary syndromes, and congestive heart failure.

Most common symptoms of cardiotoxicity are associated with not enough blood circulation in the body such as tiredness and fatigue, a long-term (chronic) cough, shortness of breath, floating due to the enlarged heart muscle, abnormal heart or lung sounds and swelling in your hands, feet, or unusual weight gain.

Conventionally, treatment of cardiotoxicity is totally depending on the types of the disease including
Beta-blockers, ACE inhibitors induce (widen) the arterial dilation and improvement of the blood flow and diuretics.

Turmeric is a perennial plant in the genus Curcuma, belongings to the family Zingiberaceae, native to tropical South Asia.

The herb has been used in traditional medicine as an anti-oxidant, hypoglycemic, colorant, antiseptic, wound healing agent, and to treat flatulence, bloating, and appetite loss, ulcers, eczema, inflammations, etc.

On findings a potential compound for the treatment of heart disease associated with chemical toxicity, researchers examined the effect of nanomicelle curcumin on BPA-induced subchronic cardiotoxicity in rats.
The selected rat was randomly divided into 6 groups including control, nanomicelle curcumin (50 mg/kg, gavage), BPA (50 mg/kg, gavage), nanomicelle curcumin (10, 25, and 50 mg/kg) plus BPA for 4 weeks.

Based on the results of assays, BPA significantly induced cardiac injuries including focal lymphatic inflammation, nuclear degenerative changes, and cytoplasmic vacuolation associated with inflammation.

Compared to the control, BPA caused the increased body weight, systolic and diastolic blood pressures, and cardiac stress observed by the increased levels of malondialdehyde and myocardial cell wall injury observed by the creatine phosphokinase-MB level.

Furthermore, levels of antioxidant enzymes in the rat also such as glutathione content was also decreased by the BPA injection.

The cardiac injury in BPA also observed by the electrocardiographic graph, RR, QT, and PQ intervals.

BPA also found to induce increased expression of genes associated with cardiac cell apoptosis and inhibited gene expression of cardiac cell survival.

However, nanomicelle curcumin (50 mg/kg) administration significantly reduced the BPA toxic effects induced the aforementioned parameters in rat heart tissue.

Based on the findings, researchers said, "The results provide evidence that nanomicelle curcumin showed preventive effects on subchronic exposure to BPA induced toxicity in the heart tissue in rats".

Taken altogether, turmeric processed abundantly bioactive compound curcumin may be considered supplements for the prevention and treatment of cardiotoxicity, pending to the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.

Intake of turmeric in the form of supplements should be taken with extreme care to prevent overdose acute liver toxicity.

Bromelain Speeds Up Healing of Ecchymosis

Ecchymosis is a discoloration of the skin caused by the bleeding underneath the skin, typically in bruising.
Most cases of ecchymosis are results in which the blood vessels near the surface of the skin burst, particularly in the impact of an injury.

In other words, ecchymosis is associated with blood vessel leaks, and the blood is accumulated under the skin.

The discoloring of the skin is also involved in the clotting factors, that stop the bleeding so that the tissue starts healing.

The progression of ecchymosis is gone through a certain stage from red or purple to black or blue
to brown and to yellow.

Certain medications have been found to induce ecchymosis including:
* Blood thinners, such as aspirin or warfarin

*Antibiotics such as cephalexin, cefaclor, and cefuroxime-axetil can cause ecchymosis by inducing low platelet count

* Corticosteroids
According to the study from the University College Hospital, easy bruising tended to be older (61 vs 52 yrs), on higher daily dosages (1,388 vs 1,067 micrograms), particularly in the long term inhaled corticosteroids users.

Most cases of ecchymosis usually heal on their own within two to three weeks. The most common medications used for the treatment of ecchymosis are pain relievers.

Bromelain, a proteolytic enzyme found in pineapples (Ananas comosus) has been used in traditional medicine as an inflammatory agent and to treat pains, strains, and muscle aches and pains and ease back pain and chronic joint pain, skin diseases, etc.

With an aim to find a potential compound for the treatment of ecchymosis, researchers examined the effects of bromelain on ecchymosis postprocedure unwanted effects.

In the reconfirm the effect of bromelain used internationally by physicians on limit ecchymosis secondary to cosmetic, laser, and surgical skin procedures, researchers reviewed the published literature and provide evidence-based recommendations on bromelain for prevention and treatment of postprocedure ecchymosis.

The search on the computerized bibliographic databases Medline, EMBASE, Scopus, and CINAHL on March 23, 2015, identified 7 clinical trials that study the effect of oral bromelain in the prevention and/or treatment of postprocedure ecchymosis compared to no studies that use topical bromelain for the treatment of ecchymosis.

Based on the results, 5 out of 7 randomized controlled trials reported improvement postprocedure ecchymosis in the bromelain-treated group.

Taken altogether, bromelain may be considered a remedy for the treatment of postprocedure ecchymosis, pending to the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.

Intake of bromelain in the form of supplements should be taken with extreme care to prevent overdose acute liver toxicity.

Phytochemical Lycopene Ameliorates Neuro-Oxidative Stress in Aging Degenerative Diseases

Oxidative stress is a condition caused by overexpression of free radicals and the depletion of antioxidant enzymes found in the host.

In other words, oxidative stress is a result of a long-term imbalance of the ratio of free radicals and antioxidants.

Antioxidants can be either produced by the liver or consumptions of antioxidant-rich fruits and vegetables.

Antioxidants are stable molecules that protect our body against free radical oxidation.

Free radicals are any chemical compounds which have an oxygen molecule that can become free radical after chemical interaction in the body

Most healthy individuals can produce enough amounts of antioxidant enzymes endogenously to counter the bombards of free radicals.

However, people with a weakened immune system such as elderly and immature immune system may require the injection of antioxidants from outside sources, particularly from the second metabolites.

Epidemiologically, oxidative stress has been found to promote a number of age-related conditions, including cardiovascular diseases CVDs, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, chronic kidney disease, neurodegenerative diseases, and cancer.

Not all free radicals are bad in the moderate amounts, our body needs limit levels of some free radicals to function better, including lower blood pressure, relax blood vessels to move blood, such as nitric oxide NO.

Lycopene is a phytochemical in the class of carotenoid, a natural pigment with no vitamin A activity found abundantly in tomatoes and other red fruits and vegetables, such as red carrots, watermelons, and papayas,

Tomatoes provide about 80% of the lycopene in the world diet. In plants, lycopene protects the host against excessive photodamage and performs various functions in photosynthesis.

On finding a phytochemical compound for the treatment of diseases associated with oxidative stress, scientists examined the effects of lycopene (LYC), a carotenoid pigment, on oxidative stress-induced cognitive defects.

According to the behavioral tests, chronic LYC supplementation (50 mg/kg body weight per day) alleviated d-galactose-induced CD-1 male mice cognitive impairments.

Furthermore, LYC ameliorated histopathological neuron damage and restored brain-derived levels of neurotrophic factor (BDNF), a neurotransmitter modulator associated with neuronal survival and growth, serves in the hippocampus of mice.

Moreover, LYC also significantly stimulated the production of antioxidant enzymes such as HO-1 and NQO-1 and reduced levels of inflammatory cytokines such as IL-1β and TNF-α in the d-galactose-treated mice serum.

The Immunohistochemical assay also suggested that LYC significantly restored the expression of glial cells inflammatory markers Iba-1 and GFAP that responses to proinflammatory expression.

More importantly, LYC protected the neuronal against oxidative damage through activation of Nrf2 signaling in the regulation of anti-inflammatory gene expression and inactivation of NF-κB translocation associated with pro-inflammatory expression in an H2O2-induced SH-SY5Y cell model.

Dr. Zhao B, the lead scientist wrote, "LYC could ameliorate oxidative stress-induced neuroinflammation and cognitive impairment possibly via mediating Nrf2/NF-κB transcriptional pathway".

Taken altogether, lycopene found in tomato may be considered supplements for the prevention and treatment of diseases associated with oxidative stress, pending on the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.

Intake of lycopene in the form of supplements should be taken with extreme care to prevent overdose acute liver toxicity.

Phytochemical Carotenoids Inhibit the Risk of Cataract

A cataract occurred in one or both eyes is a condition characterized by the clouding of the lens in the eye that affects vision. Most cases of cataract are found in older adults.

Believe it or not, by age 80, more than half of all Americans either have a cataract or have had cataract surgery.

The exact causes of cataracts are not identified. However, some researchers suggested that aging, a lifetime of exposure to ultraviolet radiation contained in sunlight, accompanied by cigarette smoking, a poor diet, and alcohol consumption are some of the prevalent factors associated with cataract developing.

Additionally, eye injury, exposure to toxic substances or radiation, and some medical conditions such as diabetes also increase the risk of cataracts.

Conventionally, there is no cure for cataracts. Treatment is focusing in replace the clouded natural lens by an artificial intraocular lens (IOL) implant.

According to the statistics, cataract including the direct annual medical costs for outpatient, inpatient, and prescription drug services has reached a total of $6.8 billion in annual healthcare cost. The condition also affects over 24.4 million Americans age 40 and older.

Some researchers suggested that the risk of cataracts in older Americans may be correlated to the promotion of a high-fat diet over the past decades.

Dr. Chung-Jung Chiu, the lead scientist wrote, "The Oriental pattern was characterized by higher intake of vegetables, legumes, fruit, whole grains, tomatoes, and seafood. The Western pattern was characterized by higher intake of red meat, processed meat, high-fat dairy products, French fries, refined grains, and eggs".

And, "Our data indicate that consuming a Western dietary pattern is significantly associated with increased odds of early nuclear opacity".

Carotenoids are a class of mainly yellow, orange, or red fat-soluble pigments, including lycopene and carotene, found abundantly in ripe tomato, pumpkins, carrots, corn, and daffodils.

With an aim to find a potential compound for the treatment of cataracts, researchers examined the effects of dietary vitamins and carotenoids on the risk of age-related cataract (ARC).

The meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and cohort studies include the search of the MEDLINE, EMBASE, ISI Web of Science, and Cochrane Library databases inception to June 2018.

According to the results of 8 RCTs and 12 cohort studies in the meta-analysis identified, carotenoids, including β-carotene (RR: 0.90; 95% CI: 0.83, 0.99; P = 0.023), and lutein or zeaxanthin (RR: 0.81; 95% CI: 0.75, 0.89; P < 0.001) were significantly associated with reduced risk of ARC in the cohort studies.

However, in RCTs, β-carotene found abundantly in carotenoid intervention did not reduce the risk of ARC significantly compared with the placebo group.

According to the dose-response analysis, in cohort studies for every 10-mg/d increase in lutein or zeaxanthin intake the risk of ARC significantly decreased by 26% with the relative odds ratio (RR) of 0.74. and for every 5-mg/d increase in β-carotene intake, the risk of ARC significantly decreased by 8% with the RR of .92.

In other words, the intake of carotenoids has a negative implication on the risk of ARC.

Based on the finding, researchers said, "Higher consumption of certain...carotenoids was associated with a significantly decreased risk of ARC in cohort studies, but evidence from RCTs is less clear".

Taken altogether, carotenoids may be considered a remedy for the prevention and treatment of age-related cataract (ARC), pending to the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.

Intake of carotenoids in the form of supplements should be taken with extreme care to prevent overdose acute liver toxicity.

Indicaxanthin Processes Redox Status Property

The redox status refers to the balance between the levels of free radicals and other reactive species and antioxidants.

Oxidants or ROS species can be produced by the body cell metabolism or from the external sources such as the air we breathe and the foods we eat.

Free radicals in moderate amount are necessary for the body functioning, inclduing NO for vascular relaxation.

Free radicals are atoms, molecules, or ions with unpaired electrons through chemical bonds with other atoms or molecules during a chemical reaction.

Antioxidants are stable molecules which play a critic role to protect our body against oxidation.

There are 2 types of antioxidants, antioxidants produced by the host are called antioxidant enzymes and antioxidant came from dietary intake.

Under normal conditions, antioxidants produced by the host are good enough to keep the levels of free radicals in check.

Imbalanced levels of free radicals and antioxidants induced oxidative stress, a major cause of many chronic ailments. In other words, free radicals overexpression caused by chain oxidative reaction that induces oxidative stress causes protein, lipid, and DNA, leading to chronic disease including cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and cancer.
According to Dr. Parvin Mirmiran, and colleagues in the joint study led by the Beheshti University of Medical Sciences, on oxidative stress in patients with metabolic syndrome, wrote, "(By) following a healthy pattern filled with fruits and vegetables ameliorates oxidative stress status and on the contrary, attachment to an unhealthy pattern, characterized by higher intakes of fast foods and processed foods, aggravated the oxidative stress levels in Tehranian individuals suffering from metabolic syndrome".

Therefore, by enhancing antioxidant status in the body through regular physical activity and intake of fruits and vegetables which contain a high amount of dietary antioxidant to offset the free-radical toxic effects, the risk of oxidative stress can be reduced substantially.

Indicaxanthin is phytochemicals in the class of red and yellow indole-derived pigments of Betacyanins, belongings to the group of Betalains found abundantly in beets, chard, etc.

On finding a potential compound which processes chemo-activity, researchers examined the effect of Indicaxanthin as a natural chemoactive and chemopreventive agent.

The randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled and crossover design included 8 women (23.25±2.95 years old, weight of 54.13±9.05 kg, height of 157.75±0.66 cm and BMI of 21.69±0.66 kg/m2) randomly divided into 2 groups and each group was supplied with either 50 ml OFI, diluted to 170 ml with water, or 170 ml Placebo containing the same concentration of fruit juice ingredients except for Vitamin C and indicaxanthin.

According to the blood samples from women taken before and after the effort test without supplementation (baseline), pre- and post-test, 24 h and 48 h post-test with OFI or Placebo supplementation every day for 3 days before of effort test on a cycle ergometer and continued to take it for 2 consecutive days after testing, free radical H2O2 levels were significantly decreased and total antioxidant capacity (PAT) significantly increase in the OFI group comapred to placebo.

In other words, by comparing the effect on OFI and placebo groups, the antioxidants vitamin C and indicaxanthin may be the major constituents in the induction of the efficacy of OFI in restoring redox balance.

Based on the results, researchers said, " OFI supplementation might be used to restore redox balance after intense exercises in moderately trained women".

Taken altogether, indicaxanthin may be considered a remedy in restoring redox balance after intense exercises in moderately trained women, pending to the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.

Phytochemical Allicin, Gobbles Up Endometrial Cancer Cells in Vitro

Scientists may have found a natural ingredient for the prevention and treatment of endometrial cancer with no side effects, according to studies.

The endometrium is the inner lining of the mammalian uterus and very susceptible hormone change, particularly to the menstrual cycle.

Endometrial cancer is a late adulthood cancer characterized by the cell growth irregularly and uncontrollably in the endometrial tissue.

The cause of endometrial cancer is an alternation of call DNA in the endometrium.

Most cases of endometrial cancer start in the cells on the surface of the inner lining of the endometrium. After penetrating deeper into the organ tissue, the cancerous cell may induce secondary metastasis through lymph and blood.

Endometrial cancer is the fourth most common cancer among women overall, after breast cancer, lung cancer, and bowel cancer. The average age diagnosed with endometrial cancer is 60.

According to the statistic provided by the American Cancer Society, every year, approximately,
63,000 new cases of cancer of the body of the uterus (uterine body or corpus) will be diagnosed.
Endometrial cancer causes the death of 11,350 women,, every year.

The 5-year survival rate for women with uterine cancer is 81%. However, the 5 years mortality rate in black women is substantially higher, compared to white women.

The most common risk factors of endometrial cancer are associated with hormone change due to menopause, use of birth control pills, and tamoxifen pregnancy, ovarian tumors, and polycystic ovarian syndrome.

Some researchers suggested that obesity is one major cause of hormone change associated with the onset of endometrial cancer.

Dt. Evan L. Busch, the lead scientists analyzed the endometrial cancer risk factors, said, " Compared with not being obese, obesity increased the odds of having an ER-positive tumor at cut points of 0% to 20% [maximum OR, 2.92; 95% confidence interval (CI), 1.34–6.33] as well as the odds of having a PR-positive tumor at cut points of 70% to 90% (maximum OR, 2.53; 95% CI, 1.36–4.68)".

And, " Obesity may be associated with greater endometrial tumor expression of ER and PR. Adding either marker does not appear to improve mortality prediction beyond the standard predictors".

Allicin is phytochemical containing sulfur in the class of organosulfur compound, found abundantly in onion and garlic.

With an aim to find the ingredient for the treatment of endometrial cancer, researchers determined whether pure allicin exhibits the antiproliferative effect reported for garlic in vitro models.

Treatment of allicin, but not its precursor alliin, inhibited proliferation of human endometrial (Ishikawa) cancer cells (50% inhibitory concentration = 10-25 microM).

Furthermore, the pure allicin and water extract of garlic powder with equivalent allicin concentrations displayed a similar potency.

The result strongly suggested that allicin is responsible for the antiproliferative effect of the extract.

Allicin treatments inhibited the levels of antioxidants produced by the cancer cell line and the extent of the decrease in glutathione (GSH) levels correlated well (r = 0.75) with the growth inhibitory activity of allicin.

However, the magnitude and kinetics of which significantly varied depending on cancer cell type.

Dr. Hirsch K, the lead scientist said, allicin plays a major role in the antiproliferative effect of water-soluble garlic preparations and that this effect may be attributed to the ability of allicin to transiently deplete the intracellular GSH level.

Moreover, the treatment of allicin also induces cancer cell death through activating proteins associated with cell apoptosis and cell death programming.

Also, the efficacy of allicin also was attributed to the function of bioactive compounds stimulating the protein involved "on" or "off" switch of cell apoptosis, as well as inhibiting the antioxidant enzymes produced by the cancer cells.

Taken altogether, phytochemical allicin may be considered a bioactive compound for reducing risk and combined with the primary medicine for the treatment of endometrial cancer.

However, intake of allicin in the form of supplement should be taken with extreme care as acute toxicity was reported in a number of cases.

Herbal Ashwagandha the Anti Rheumatoid Arthritis Herbal Medicine

Rheumatoid Arthritis, a type of musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) is a chronic disorder characterized by inflammation of the flexible (synovial) joints and tissues and organs in the body.

The disease affects more women than men and generally occurs after the ages of 50, causing the diminished quality of life of many elders.

Musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) are medical conditions mostly caused by work-related occupations and working environments, affecting patients’ muscles, joints, tendons, ligaments and nerves and developing over time.

According to a community sample of 73 females and 32 males aged 85 and over who underwent a standardized examination at home, musculoskeletal pain was reported by 57% of those interviewed.

According to the statistics provided by the CDC, musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) affects over 52 million adults in the US alone, including 294,000 children under age 18 with some form of arthritis or rheumatic conditions.

Rheumatoid arthritis was found to induce bone loss through elevating bone resorption without increasing bone formation.

A cross-sectional population-based study of 1042 patients with rheumatoid arthritis showed that RA patients had an increased risk of death from various causes.

Patient with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) often associates to valgus deformities of the feet and deformities of gait due to body function due to an effort to support the collapsing longitudinal arch of the foot. The kinematic and kinetic gait changes in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) are the result of a significant reduction in joint motions, joint moments, such as decreased hip flexion-extension range, hip abduction, knee flexion-extension range,...

Long-term bone damage and the prolonged onset of the disease can induce deformities of hand and wrist and small peripheral joints (such as fingers and wrist) due to chronic inflammation.

The effects of muscle strength in patients with RA may contribute to the prevalence of functional limitations physically that can affect daily living and quality of life.

Furthermore, rheumatoid nodules, lump on the skin, closed to the joint have been found to affect the joints of patients with RA.

Moreover, morning stiffness, a marker of inflammatory activity that reflects functional disability and pain is a very common symptom of patients in the early stage of rheumatoid arthritis.

Dr. Motl RW and Dr. McAuley E. in the assessment of chronic diseases said, " The rationale and the associated onset of chronic disease conditions that influence function, disability, and quality of life (QOL) are embedded in the "Graying of America""(29), including patients with RA.

Ashwagandha also is known as Withania somnifera is a nightshade plant in the genus of Withania, belonging to the family Solanaceae, native to the dry parts of India, North Africa, Middle East, and the Mediterranean.

The herbal medicine has been considered as Indian ginseng and used in Ayurvedic medicine over 3000 years to treat tumors and tubercular glands, carbuncles, memory loss, and ulcers and considered as anti-stress, cognition-facilitating, anti-inflammatory, and anti-aging herbal medicine.

On finding a potent compound for the treatment of arthritis, researchers examined the effect of Cannabis sativa, Prunella vulgaris, and Withania somnifera) possess anti-inflammatory, and-rheumatic arthritis properties.

According to the tested analysis, the tested medical plants showed a significant effect on RA by targeting TNF-α through its anti-inflammatory activity.

More precisely, twenty unique molecules found in the medical plants including Withania somnifera were attributed to the utmost binding affinity, least binding energies associated with the interaction of receptor-ligand interactions of residues against RA.

Based on the findings, researchers said, " the RA patients should use reported compounds for the prescription of RA by targeting TNF-α. This report is opening new dimensions for designing innovative therapeutic targets to cure RA.".

Taken altogether, Ashwagandha may be considered a functional herb for the prevention and an adjunct therapy combined with the primary medicine for the treatment of RA, pending to the result of larger sample size and multicenter study

Herbal Cranberry, a Potential and Natural Prevention and Treatment of Esophageal Tumor

The esophagus formed part of the digestive system is a muscular tube that connects the throat (pharynx) with the stomach located behind the trachea and heart and in front of the spine.

Cancer is a group of chronic diseases associated with irregular cell growth that start in the cell on the surface of the inner lining tissue of the specific gland and organ before penetrating into deeper layers to form tumors through unlimited cell cycle division.

Over time, most cancers have become progressively worse and spread to other organs in the body via lymph or blood.

Esophageal cancer is not very uncommon in the US caused by malignant cells of the esophagus due to cell DNA alternation.

Primary esophageal cancer has been found to spread to the bottom of the esophagus, stomach, and chest.
According to the statistics, compared to the US, esophageal cancer is more often diagnosed in other parts of the world and the seventh most common cause of cancer death among men.

Believe it or not, every year, the disease causes the death of 16,000 individuals, including 13,000 men and 3,000 women,

Compared to other cancers the 5-year survival rate for people with esophageal cancer is only 19%.

The exact causes of esophageal cancer are unidentified. However, according to the epidemiological studies, aging, male gender, smoking, excessive alcohol drinking, genetic preposition, obesity, thermal injury to the esophagus are some prevalent factors that increase the risk of the disease.

Some researchers suggested that the increased incidences of esophageal cancer in the Western world over the past few decades may be correlated to the promotion of a high-fat diet.

Dr. Silvano Gallus wrote, "Over the last 30 years, the incidence of squamous-cell carcinoma has decreased in several areas of the world, but adenocarcinoma has risen by over fourfold in the US as well as in Australia and several areas of Europe; its incidence has particularly increased in men".

And, " diets high in saturated fat and cholesterol have been associated with an increased risk (of esophageal cancer)".

Cranberry is an evergreen dwarf shrub, genus Vaccinium, belongings to the family Ericaceae, native to Northern America and Southern Asia. Because of its health benefits, cranberry has been cultivated in some parts of the world for commercial profit and used in traditional and herbal medicine to treat wounds, urinary disorders, diarrhea, diabetes, stomach ailments, and liver problems.

On finding a potential compound for the treatment of gastrointestinal tumor, researchers examined the effect of a purified cranberry-derived proanthocyanidin extract (C-PAC) on esophageal adenocarcinoma (EAC) cell lines, including acid-sensitive JHAD1 and OE33 cells, and esophageal tumor xenografts in athymic NU/NU mice.

According to the tested assays, C-PAC shared a strong activity in inducing the expression of a protein associated with cell death programming mainly in JHAD1 and OE33 cells.

Autophagy that promotes cancer cell growth and anti-apoptosis of JHAD1 and OE33 cells were also inhibited by the injection of C-PAC.

In vitro, C-PAC induced cell death was attributed to deactivation of the phosphatidylinositol-3-kinase (PI3K)/Akt and the mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) signaling pathways expression in the promotion of cancer cellular processes, including cell survival, growth, and differentiation.

Additionally, C-PAC not only inhibited the levels of anti-apoptotic proteins such as BCL-xL, Cytochrome C, PARP), pathways involved in the occurrence and progression of cancer, but also exhibited the expression of proteins that induces cell cycle arrest.

Similarly, in vivo, oral delivery of C-PAC significantly inhibited OE19 tumor xenograft growth as the aforementioned activities.

In other words, in vitro and Vivo purified cranberry-derived proanthocyanidin extract (C-PAC) eradicate the esophageal adenocarcinoma (EAC) cells through several mechanisms involved in pro-apoptosis, anti-anti-apoptosis and blocking cellular division.

Based on the finding, researchers after taking other factors into account wrote, " C-PAC is a potent inducer of EAC cell death and is efficacious in vivo at non-toxic behaviorally achievable concentrations, holding promise for preventive or therapeutic interventions in cohorts at increased risk for EAC, a rapidly rising and extremely deadly malignancy".

Taken altogether, cranberry extract may be considered a remedy for the prevention and treatment of esophageal cancer, pending to the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.

Phytochemical isobetanin, the Powerful Antioxidant In Beetroot

Antioxidants are stable molecules that inhibit the onset of oxidation caused by free radicals.

Free radicals, on the other hand, are unstable molecules that cause oxidation, with unpaired electrons in the outermost ring.

Free radical scavengers are types of antioxidants which play a critical to neutralize free radical before they can induce a chain reaction which can not be stopped until all unpaired electrons in the outermost are paired.

Overexpression of free radicals or depletion of antioxidant enzymes in the host body can lead to
oxidative stress, an indicator associated with the unbalanced ratio of the levels of antioxidants/free radicals

Epidemiologically, the imbalance ratio of free radicals/antioxidants has been linked to the onset of many chronic diseases, including atherosclerosis, cancer, diabetics, rheumatoid arthritis, post-ischemic perfusion injury, myocardial infarction, cardiovascular diseases, chronic inflammation, stroke due to cellular, lipid and protein damage.

However, free radicals have the potential to be extremely harmful contaminants and extremely helpful for the treatment of cancers through their cytotoxic activity because of its high reactivity,

Believe it or not, free radicals present in the body with a moderate amount are important to the body's cardio-functioning, including the promotion of vascular function.

Some researchers in the examination of the effect of antioxidant-rich foods in the risk-free radicals initiation suggested that diet rich in fruits and vegetables and less in meat and process foods have a lower risk of oxidative stress and oxidative stress-related diseases.

The National Centre for Complementary and Integrative Health in the article "Antioxidants: In-Depth" wrote, "Several decades of dietary research findings suggested that consuming greater amounts of antioxidant-rich foods might help to protect against diseases. Because of these results, there has been a lot of research on antioxidant supplements".

And "Observational studies on the typical eating habits, lifestyles, and health histories of large groups of people have shown that those who ate more vegetables and fruits had lower risks of several diseases, including cardiovascular disease, stroke, cancer, and cataracts".

Isobetanin is Phytochemicals in the class of red and yellow indole-derived pigments of Betacyanins, belongings to the group of Betalains, found abundantly in beets, chard,...

On finding a potent ingredient for the treatment of disease associated with oxidative stress, researchers examined the chemical constituents of betacyanin of Djulis (Chenopodium fromosanum), a native cereal plant in Taiwan.

Betacyanin of Djulis exhibited a significant antioxidant capacity at the maximum absorbance at 530 nm, depending on the pH.

Major chemical compounds that exerted a significant antioxidant capacity are betanin (47.8%), isobetanin (30.0%) with m/z 551.0, and armaranthin (13.6%), isoamaranthinee (8.6%).

According to the purified form, the pigment extract by HPLC, betanin, and isobetanin totally accounted for more than 70% of FRAP(ferric-reducing antioxidant power) which plays an important role in this regard of absorptivity for a variety of antioxidants and free radical scavenging capacity.

These results strongly suggested that betanin and isobetanin antioxidants process a strong antioxidant activity that may provide a basis for its sustainable utilization in the food industry.

Taken altogether, isobetanin may be considered a remedy for the prevention and treatment of diseases associated with oxidative stress pending to the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.

Healthy Food Onion Inhibits Lung Cancer in Vivo

The lung is a vital organ formed part of the respiratory system located near the backbone on either side of the heart that inhales oxygen from the air to the bloodstream and exhales carbon dioxide from the bloodstream.

Lung cancer is a medical condition caused by the abnormal growth of the cells in the lung's tissue. A most common form of primary lung cancer is derived from epithelial cells.

According to the statistic, in the US, approximately 541,000 Americans are living with lung cancer at some points in their lives. In 2018, approximately 234,000 new cases of lung cancer were diagnosed, representing about 13 percent of all cancer diagnoses.

The exact causes of lung cancer are unknown. Epidemiologically, the prevalent factors associated with an increased risk of lung cancer are
*Smoking
Smoking is a major cause of lung cancer by causing oxidation stress to the lung due to chemical substances (carcinogens) in the cigarette over time.

* Second-hand smoke
Prolonged exposure to second-hand smoke can also increase the risk of lung cancer.

* Exposure to certain chemicals
The risk of lung cancer is increased for people who inhale or expose certain industrial chemical such as radon gas, arsenic, chromium, nickel, etc. in the workplace.

* Family history
The risk of lung cancer increased if one of the members of the direct family has lung cancer.

* Lung disease
Risk of lung cancer is increased if you have or previously had certain types of lung disease

* Excessive alcohol drinking
Alcohol intake of more than 2 drinks per day is associated with a small increased risk of lung cancer.

Some researchers suggested that the risk of lung cancer can be decreased by
* Quit smoking
According to statistics, approximate 87% of lung cancer deaths are caused by smoking.

* Eating more fruits and vegetables
These foods contain a high amount of antioxidants which enhance the immune system against the forming of free radicals and prevent the alternation of cell DNA cause of abnormal cell growth.

* Avoid Second smokes
Second smoke contains the same amount of carcinogens, exposure to it can increase the risk of lung cancer.

* Avoid environmental chemicals
Avoid exposure to certain industrial chemicals such as radon gas, arsenic, chromium, nickel, etc.. In the workplace, deal with them by taking maximum precautions and prevention.

* Reduced alcohol intake
Researchers found that increased risk of lung cancer for people who have more than 2 drinks a day.

The onion is a plant in the genus Allium, belonging to the family Alliaceae, a close relation of garlic. It is often called the "king of vegetables" because of its pungent taste and found in a large number of recipes and preparations spanning almost the totality of the world's cultures.

Depending on the variety, an onion can be sharp, spicy, tangy, pungent, mild or sweet.

On finding a potential compound for the treatment of cancer, researchers examined the effects of onionin A (ONA) derived from the onion in the inhibition of tumor-associated macrophages in the M2 phenotype.

According to the tested analysis.* Onionin A (ONA) inhibits macrophage polarization into the M2 phenotype associated with tumorigenesis by antagonizing the cytotoxic activity immune cells.

* Onionin also exerted immunosuppressive activity and tumor proliferation, by suppressing signal transducer and activator associated with tumor proliferative promotion.

* In lung tumor, ONA administration significantly suppressed subcutaneous tumor development and lung metastasis in tumor-bearing mice.

* ONA also increased the number of infiltrating lymphocytes against the tumor proliferation in tumor tissues.

The efficacy of ONA against the onset and progression of od lung cancer was probably involved in the regulation of tumor proliferation by inhibiting cell-cell interactions between macrophages and tumor cells.

Based on the finding, researchers said, "NA administration enhanced the antitumor effects of cisplatin in the tumor-bearing mice".

Taken altogether, onion processed a higher mount of onionin A (ONA) may be considered a remedy for the prevention and treatment of lung cancer, pending to the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.

Herbal Turmeric Kills Kidney Cancer Cells in Vitro

Cancer is a group of diseases associated with cells growing and multiplying disordered and uncontrollable in the tissue of the specific organ.

Over time, the alternation of the cell DNA on the surface on the inner lining tissue may become progressively worse by penetrating into deeper layers of the infected organs.

At the advanced stage, cells of most invasive tumors can spread to other organs in the body via lymph or blood.

The kidney is an essential organ of our body, that not only plays a critical role in the urinary system, but also regulates electrolytes, blood pressure, maintains acid-base balance, produces hormone calcitriol, renin, and erythropoietin.

In the urinary system, the kidney filters blood with billions of glomeruli by separating the cells of blood from plasma.

As the plasma passing into the tubules, some necessary substances are reabsorbed back into the blood, while other waste, such as urea and ammonium are stored into pelvis then into the ureter to the bladder.

Renal cell carcinoma is the most common type of kidney cancer caused by malignant cells of the lining of the tubules in the kidney. Renal cell carcinoma tends first to spread to the lung, but it may also spread to lymph nodes and other organs as well.

Because of less nervous in the kidney and location, patients in the early stage of renal cell carcinoma are asymptomatic. In other words, kidney tumors can grow without causing any pain and discomfort. Most common symptoms of kidney cancer are
* Abdominal pain that is dull and constant lasting for hours.

*Back pain that is dull and constant lasting for hours.

* Blood in the urine is a result of break off of the tumor in the tubules.

* Unintentional weight loss
Any intentional weight loss of over 10% is one of the most common symptoms of cancer.

* Flank pain is a sensation of discomfort, distress, or agony in around the back and side of the abdomen.

* Swelling and enlargement of the abdomen happens to approximate 15% of all cases of renal cell carcinoma.

*Anemia
If cancer has affected the function of erythropoietin in the production of hemoglobin.

* Varicocele enlargement is a result of the blockage of the left (right) testicular vein by tumor invasion of the left (right) renal vein.

*Hypertension is a result of the secretion of renin by the tumor.

If you experience some of the aforementioned symptoms persistently, please check with your doctor to rule out the possibility of kidney cancer

Turmeric is a perennial plant in the genus Curcuma, belonging to the family Zingiberaceae, native to tropical South Asia.

The herb has been used in traditional medicine as an anti-oxidant, hypoglycemic, colorant, antiseptic, wound healing agent, and for the treatment of flatulence, bloating, and appetite loss, ulcers, eczema, inflammations, etc.

On finding a potential ingredient for the treatment of renal cell carcinoma, researchers examined the combined treatment with natural compounds and NVP-BEZ235 in human renal carcinoma Caki cells.

Where NVP-BEZ235 is an inhibitor of signaling pathways associated with the development of kidney tumors.

According to the tested analysis, curcumin markedly induced apoptosis in NVP-BEZ235-treated cells.

Co-treatment with curcumin and NVP-BEZ235 led to the down-regulation of Mcl-1 protein expression Involved in the regulation of apoptosis and survival of cancer cells but not mRNA expression in tested cells.

Furthermore, the co-administration also inhibited the protein associated with the anti-apoptotic activity of Bcl-2.

Interestingly, in colon cancer cell line analysis, Combined treatment with NVP-BEZ235 and curcumin reduced Bcl-2 expression in wild-type p53 HCT116 human colon carcinoma cells but not p53-null HCT116 cells.

In skin cells perspectively, NVP-BEZ235 combined with curcumin did not have a synergistic effect on normal human skin fibroblasts and normal human mesangial cells.

Based on the findings, researchers suggested that curcumin combined with the NVP-BEZ235 induced human renal carcinoma Caki cells apoptosis by regulating the protein associated with anti-apoptosis accompanied by blocking the activation of proliferative signaling pathways.

Taken altogether, turmeric processed abundantly bioactive compound curcumin may be considered supplements for the prevention and treatment of kidney cancer, pending to the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.

Intake of turmeric in the form of supplements should be taken with extreme care to prevent overdose acute liver toxicity.

Phytochemical Lycopene Kills Head and Neck Cancer Cells, According to Study

Cancer is a group of diseases caused by cell growth irregularly in the affected tissue caused by DNA alternation.

Head and neck cancer is a group of cancers originated from the mouth, nose, throat, larynx, sinuses, or salivary glands.

According to the statistics provided by the Canadian Cancer Society, approximately 4,300 Canadians are diagnosed with cancer of the head and neck every year. Head and neck cancer also cause the death of nearly 1,610 of Canadian.

The overall survival rate of 5 years after diagnosis is 62% tobacco use, alcohol consumption and viral infection including human papillomavirus (HPV) infection (for oropharyngeal cancer), and Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) infection (for nasopharyngeal cancer).

Some researchers suggested that diet pattern may have a strong impact on the onset of the disease.

Dr. Shu-Chun Chuang, the lead scientist wrote, "A dietary pattern score combining high fruit and vegetable intake and low red meat intake, was created. Odds ratios (OR) and 95% confidence intervals (CI) for the dietary items on the risk of HNC were estimated with a two-stage random-effects logistic regression model".

And, "Higher dietary pattern scores, reflecting high fruit/vegetable and low red meat intake, were associated with reduced HNC risk (per score increment OR=0.90, 95% CI=0.84–0.97)".

In other words, if you are Western diet follower, your risk of head and neck cancer increased substantially compared to those who follow a traditional diet.

The most common symptoms of head and neck cancer are totally depending on the location of cancer including a lump or sore that does not heal, a sore throat that does not go away, trouble swallowing, or a change in the voice.

In the urgency to find a potential compound for the treatment of head and neck cancer, researchers examined the lycopene overload and cytotoxic effects on HNSCC cells.

According to the cell analysis, lycopene at a dose of >10 µM for >24 h inhibited the growth of FaDu and Cal27 cells in a time‑ and dose‑dependent manner.

Furthermore, the injection of lycopene not only provided the clearest increase in growth inhibition by cell apoptosis but also limited the cancer cell invasive activity at a dose of 25 µM.

More precisely, lycopene killed cancer cells by exhibiting the protein associated with cell death programming and apoptosis.

Dr. Ye M, the lead scientist after taking other factors into account wrote, " lycopene induced the upregulation of the pro‑apoptotic protein, B‑cell lymphoma‑associated X protein".

Taken altogether, lycopene may be considered supplements for the prevention and treatment of head and neck cancer, pending on the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.

Intake of lycopene in the form of supplements should be taken with extreme care to prevent overdose acute liver toxicity.

Herbal Turmeric Reduces Risk of Chronic Inflammatory Diseases

Inflammation is a process of the immune system that responds to harmful pathogens.

Inflammation can be acute or chronic. In the acute phase of infection, the immune system after receiving information from the neurons, macrophages, the largest white blood cells in the first line of defense stimulate the production of blood palette to cover the wound and the production of inflammatory cytokines to kill off micro-organisms, leading to symptoms of fever, redness, and swelling.

However, in some cases, the overproduction of proinflammatory cytokines may damage nearby healthy cells and tissues, causing the formation of scars.

In severe cases, a protein with duo functions in the production of pro and anti-inflammatory cytokines which produce anti-inflammatory cytokines under normal condition also switch to produce pro-inflammatory cytokines.

Most cases of acute inflammatory are resolved within a few days without causing damage to the wound tissues.

However, if the immune first line of defense can not completely destroy the invaders within a period of 3 to 8 weeks, it will compromise, leading to low-grade chronic inflammation.

Diseases associated with low-grade chronic inflammation include diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and cancer.

Dr. in the examination of the etiology of chronic inflammation (CI) suggested that CI can result from the following:
* Failure of eliminating the agent causing an acute inflammation such as infectious disease induced organisms
* Long-term exposure to a low level of a particular irritant or foreign materials that cannot be eliminated by an enzymatic breakdown in the body including substances or industrial chemicals.

* An autoimmune disorder caused by the immune system that attacks healthy tissue, such as rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE)

* Recurrent episodes of acute inflammation.

* Inflammation that causes oxidative stress and mitochondrial dysfunction such as advanced glycation end products (AGEs).

Conventionally, treatment of acute phase inflammation is to manage inflammation and prevent the risk of long-term damage, including anti-inflammatory nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) which can be bought without a prescription.

On findings a potential compound for the treatment of chronic diseases, researchers examined the efficacy of turmeric on continued oxidative stress and oxidative damage that lead to chronic inflammation in the mediation of most chronic diseases.

At the molecular level, turmeric showed a significant anti-inflammatory activity by suppressing the proteins associated with the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines, including the NF-κB and COX-2.

Furthermore, the proteins associated with the response to cytokines and growth factors such as signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 was also inhibited by the injection of turmeric.

Moreover, the administration of turmeric also inhibited the production of ROS by promoting the production of antioxidants enzymes such as nrf2, a protein that regulates the expression of antioxidant proteins that protect against oxidative damage.

Furthermore, numerous studies also indicated that curcumin not only is highly potent against the antimicrobial disease but also inhibited the onset of various chronic diseases including cancers, diabetes, obesity, cardiovascular, pulmonary, neurological and autoimmune diseases.

As of today, over 100 different clinical trials also showed that curcumin is safe, tolerable and effective against various chronic diseases in humans.

Taken altogether, turmeric processed abundantly bioactive compound curcumin may be considered supplements for the prevention and treatment of chronic inflammatory diseases pending to the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.

Intake of turmeric in the form of supplements should be taken with extreme care to prevent overdose acute liver toxicity.
