Ginger was found as effective as those of mefenamic acid (an NSAID).

The finding point to one conclusion, oral ginger could be an effective treatment for menstrual pain in dysmenorrhea.

Dr. Daily JW, the lead scientists in another search to find the evidence of ginger for treating primary dysmenorrhea launched an investigation by looking into the database of 12 medical libraries.

Seven met specific selection criteria were included in the review.

Four of the RCTs compared the therapeutic efficacy of ginger with placebo during the first 3-4 days of the menstrual cycle and were included in the meta-analysis.
The results of the in-depth differentiation showed that ginger processes a significant effect in reducing the Pain Visual Analogue Scale (PVAS) in subjects having primary dysmenorrhea.

Six RCTs out of 7 exhibited low to moderate of the risk of bias.

These results of the RCTs strongly indicated the suggestive evidence for the effectiveness of 750-2000 mg ginger powder during the first 3-4 days of the menstrual cycle for primary dysmenorrhea.
