All About Vitamins: Vitamin B6 for Treatment of Anxiety

Vitamin B6 may have an positive effect in reduced levels of anxiety, some scientists suggested.

According a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled and crossover design study to investigate single and combined effects of daily dietary supplementation with 50 mg of vitamin B6 and 200 mg magnesium (as MgO) for one cycle for the relief of mild premenstrual symptoms, among 44 assigned to treatments daily for one menstrual cycle: (1) 200 mg Mg, (2) 50 mg vitamin B6, (3) 200 mg Mg + 50 mg vitamin B6 and (4) placebo, after taking into account of other risk factors, researchers showed that treatment with 200 mg/day Mg + 50 mg/day vitamin B6 expressed a significant reduction of anxiety-related premenstrual symptoms (nervous tension, mood swings, irritability, or anxiety) in compared to other treated groups, specially in mild premenstrual anxiety-related symptoms.

Other in the study to evaluate the effect of combination of Magne-B6 used, in the treatment of 25 patients with different forms of epilepsy with psychiatric status of patients featured by depression, anxiety and some psychotic sighs researchers indicated that according to the results of self-rating scales for Zung anxiety and depression scale, SCL-90 and Global clinical impression (CGI) scale, the combination display a strong effect in non-specific influence on patient's mental state at between the 14 - 28 days of treatment without inducing serious side effects.

Taking altogethers, Vitamin B6 may be used alone or conjunction with other minerals supplement for treatment of anxiety.
