The smoothie for people with higher risk of Bone Cancer and Bone Cancer

Yield: 2 serving (about 8 ounce each)
1 1/2 cups blackberry
1/3 tsp cucumin
1 cup green tea drink (Make from 4 grams(2 tea bags) of green tea, a slice of ginger and a cup of hot water lipped for 5 minutes, and set aside for cooling to room temperature)

1. Place all ingredients in a blender and puree about 1 minute
2. Blend on high speed about 1 minute or until the mixture is thick and the ice is well crushed.
3. Serve immediately

The finding of a natural source for reduced risk and treatment of ovarian cancer has encountered many obstacles, many ingredients showed initially the promising result in animal studies have not produced same potentials in either large sample size and mutli centers human trials.

Blackberry(1), green tea(7) and turmeric(4) may be the next generation of pharmaceutical ingredients for reduced risk and treatment of bone cancer, due to theirs effectiveness in recent clinical trials and studies conducted by respectable institutions.

Bone cancer is an abnormal growth of cells within the bone that have became cancerous. Bone cancer may be classified as primary canceroriginated in the bone, and secondary cancer originated from elsewhere.

Black berry, a edible fruit produced species in the Rubus genus in the Rosaceae family has found to consist a various health effects including suppressing tumor growth through its antioxidants flavonols and ellagitannins(1). According to the joint study lead by the Universidade Estadual Paulista-UNESP, DNA damage in bone marrow and peripheral blood cells and chromosomal aberrations, was significant reduced in a 2000 mg/kg dose due to the presence of its phytochemical compounds tormentic acid, stigmasterol, quercitinglucoronide (miquelianin) and niga-ichigoside F1 (2).

Dr. Dai J and colleagues at the niversity of Kentucky, in support of the berry;s antiproliferative and anti-inflammatory properties disclosed," in a concentration-dependent manner, total anthocyanin concentrations in the range of 0-40 microg/mL suppressed both high-dose (10 microg/mL) and low-dose (0.1 microg/mL) lipid A-induced interleukin-12 release from mouse bone marrow-derived dendritic cells"(3).

Turmeric is a perennial plant in the genus Curcuma, belonging to the family Zingiberaceae, native to tropical South Asia. The herb has been used in trditional medicine as anti-oxidant, hypoglycemic, colorant, antiseptic, wound healing agent, and to treat flatulence, bloating, and appetite loss, ulcers, eczema, inflammations, etc.

Curcumin, the main ingredient of turmeric has shown to induce cell apoptosis in human osteosarcoma, by inhibiting the over-expression of gene (Notch1) associated with tumor progression, according to Dr. Li Y, and scientists at the Qilu Hospital, Shandong University(4).In chondrosarcoma, a soft tissue sarcoma, curcumin, an active compound induced tumor apoptosis and inhibited tumor proliferation, invasion, angiogenesis, and metastasis of cancer cells, through protein in regulated cell cycle and tumor suppression gene p53(5).
The joint study in support of the effect of curcumin in reduced risk and treatment of bone cancer, said," IL-1 signaling(in the regulation of immune and inflammatory responses) and VEGF-A expression(involved progression and prognosis of cancer) are blocked by Curcumin in chondrosarcoma cells" and "Curcumin blocks IL-1β-induced angiogenesis and NF-κB-related gene expression" of that "may be an additional treatment option in chondrosarcoma"(6).

Green tea has been a precious drink in traditional Chinese culture and used exceptional in socialization for more than 4000 thousand years. Due to its commercial values and health effects, green tea now has been cultivated all over the world in suitable climate.

Epigallocatechin-3-gallate, the major ingredient found in green tea may be a potential anti-TNFα(inflammatory cytokine) as a therapeutic option for osteolytic painas it attenuated symptom of pain in bone cancer through inhibiting the pro inflammatory cytokines(7).

Dr. Jeong JY and the research team at the joint study by the National Institute of Animal Science discovered that Epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG) inhibited the expression levels of various genes and proteins involved in adipogenesis of which involved the reduction of cell viability and arrested the cell cycle at the gap 2/mitosis phase in bone-marrow mesenchymal stem cells(8).
Furthermore, in support of the green tea effects on bone cancer cells, the University of Madras showed that Green tea, polyphenol exhibited antioxidant effect through a protective role against 4-NQO induced lipid peroxidation and bone marrow toxicity(9).

Taking altogether people who are at increased of Bone cancer due to family history or gene mutation .....should drink at least one serving daily and people with bone cancer should drink the smoothie as much as they can, depending to digestive toleration.
Change life style and diet pattern are also recommended.
