Vitamin B2 (Riboflavin), in a murine model. showed to reduced risk of development of gastrointestinal inflammatory diseases, a renowned institute suggested.

According to the joint study lead by the Universidad Nacional de Tucumán, vitamin B2 produced by strains of lactic acid bacteria (LAB) enhance the function of the gastrointestinal tract in reduced risk of inflammatory diseases, such as colitis and inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD).

Dr. Levit R, the lead researcher said, " Mice that received soymilk fermented by (Stimulating production of Riboflavin) Produced L. plantarum CRL 2130, showed a decrease in weight loss, lower damage scores in their large intestines, lower microbial translocation to liver and decreased cytokines levels in their intestinal fluids"..."in a trinitrobenzene sulfonic induced colitis mouse model".

Other study in the probiotic ability of riboflavin-overproducing Lactobacillus strains, Lactobacillus plantarum and Lactobacillus fermentum strains, have a potential in induced overproducing riboflavin, in simulating gastrointestinal system in exhibited the probiotic ability in ameliorated the growth of pathogenic microbial strains.

The study also reveals that these Lactobacillus stains may consist a promising probiotic properties which can be development of novel functional food which would be both enriched in riboflavin and induce additional health benefits.

With all information collected above, Vitamin B2, no doubt is a good candidate for use as therapeutic
agent for enhancing gastrointestine function against early forming of inflammatory diseases.
