Recent study suggested that intake of Riboflavin may be an effective prophylactic therapy for the prevention of migraines.

Vitamin B2 also known as Riboflavin, is a water-soluble, yellow-orange organic compound found abundantly in milk, meat, eggs, nuts, enriched flour, green vegetables, etc. The vitamin is essential for normal cellular growth and function and best known for converting energy from protein, fat, and carbohydrates during metabolism and its antioxidant effects in oxidation-reduction reactions.
Migraine headache is one most common headaches defined as condition of chronic neurological disorder of moderate to severe headaches, and nausea that usually develop gradually over 5–20 minutes and last for less than 60 minutes and affected over 15% of the population in US alone, as a result of the change in the brain and its surrounding blood vessels.

According to the Southwestern Oklahoma State University, in the review of all data dates 1966-2016 using the search terms: riboflavin and migraine disorders, 5 clinical trials show a consistent positive therapeutic effect in adults and  four clinical trials show a mixed effect in paediatric and adolescent patients.

Dr. Thompson DF, the lead author said, "Riboflavin is well tolerated, inexpensive and has demonstrated efficacy in the reduction of adult patient's migraine headache frequency"

Other study revealed that Low serum of vitamin B2 is associated mitochondrial dysfunction and have a serious effect in induced migraine pathogenesis.

Supplementation vitamin B2 administrated in adults exhibited a strong properties in reducing the frequency and duration of migraine attacks with no serious side effects.

Furthermore, although riboflavin is a safe and well-tolerated supplement in preventing migraine symptoms, such as nausea, photophobia, vomiting, and sensitivity to light in adults, further studies are necessary to recommend vitamin B2 as an adjunct therapy in adults and children with migraine.
