The smoothie for reduced risk and treatment of Herpes simplex

Yield: 2 servings (about 8 ounces each)
1 1/2 cups blueberry
1 cup green tea drink (Make from 4 grams of green tea, a slice of ginger and a cup of hot water lipped for 5 minutes, and let cool to room temperature)

1. Place all ingredients in a blender and puree about 1 minute
2. Blend on high speed about 1 minute or until the mixture is thick and the ice is well crushed.
3. Serve immediately

The finding of a natural source for treatment of herpes simplex has been running into many obstacles, many ingredients showed initially with promising result in animal studies have not produced same potentials in either large sample size and mutli centers human trials.
Herpes simplex is an infectious skin disease caused by herpes simplex virus due to skin-to-skin contact, mouth contact, or sexual contact.

The recent studies from numbers of respectable institutions insisted that green tea,
may be a potential target for next generation in production of a natural sources in reduced risk and treatment of herpes simplex without induced any side effects.

Green tea has been a precious drink in traditional Chinese culture and used exceptional in socialization for more than 4000 thousand years. Because of their health benefits, they have been cultivated for commercial purposes all over the world. Its phytochemicals epigallocatechin-3-gallate used topically inhibited herpes simplex labialis infection with clinical significance(1).

Theaflavin-3,3'-digallate (TF3) in Catechin, a major phytochemical constituent found in green tea, inhibited HSV-1 production in both Vero and A549 cells(2), according to the joint study from Seton Hall University.
Dr. de Oliveira A and colleagues in the study of the effect of green tea against herpes simplex, suggested that Green tea polyphenol epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), may be a potent inhibitor of herpes simplex virus 1 (HSV-1) by blocking the production of infectious HSV-1 particles(3).

Resveratrol, found abundantly in blueberry is a phytochemical in the class of Stilbenoids may also be a potential agent for reduced risk and treatment of Herpes simplex(4).
According to the Nanjing University School of Medicine and Jiangsu Laboratory of Molecular Medicine, Stilbenoids including resveratrol with basic structural unit of 1,2-diphenylethylene, have demonstrated potent biological activities in against HSV-1 and HSV-2 infection(5), through inhibited the production of reactive oxygen species(ROS).
Dr. Faith SA and researchers at the Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine, also suggested, resveratrol suppressed nuclear factor-kappaB in regulating the immune response to infection in herpes simplex virus infected cells in the all stages of impairs expression of HSV genes and synthesis of viral DNA.(6).

Anthocyanidins‎, another flavonoid found in blueberry also demonstrated a strong antiviral activity in a plaque reduction assay through its cytopathic effect (CPE)(7).

In support of the effectiveness of flavonoid against herpes simplex infection, Dr. Lin LC and researchers at the National Research Institute of Chinese Medicine said, " (All compounds)showed an inhibitory effects on herpes simplex virus type-1 (HSV-1) replication in Vero cells. Both compounds (-)-epigallocatechin 3-O-gallate (1), samarangenin B (2) exhibited potent inhibitory activities in HSV-1 replication"(8).

Rich sources of Catechin, Resveratrol and Anthocyanidins found in green tea and blueberry may process a potential benefit for reduced risk and treatment of Herpes simplex infection. The smoothie containing these ingredients in high amount should also mimic the similar effects in chronic use.
People at higher risk of Herpes simplex infection due to genetic mutation, immune disorder,..... should drink at least one serving daily and people with the disease should drink as much as they can, depending to the toleration of digestive system.
